SEATTLE - Seattle U women's soccer battled to a draw with Portland, 2-2, Wednesday night at Championship Field. The match featured three penalty kicks in a physical battle between the two rivals.

The Pilots would strike first in the match when they were awarded the first of their two penalties, converting in the 31st minute. The visitors would take their goal lead into the break.

Caroline Penner would quickly erase the deficit once play resumed, hitting a looping shot from outside the box in the 46th minute that just snuck under the crossbar. It was the ninth goal of the season for Penner, setting a new personal career high for the senior.

Portland would again be awarded a penalty in the 64th, and again they would convert and regain the lead. The Redhawks would not concede a goal from the run of play, as the other 12 Pilot shots were either off target or saved by Kassidy Kirgan.

Seattle U would get in on the penalty awardment when Kailee Wilson was taken down in the box in the 84th. She would also be the one to take the kick, slotting the attempt home in the bottom right corner to level the match. It was the fourth straight match with a point for Wilson.

That would be where the scoring concluded, as the match ended in a draw. The result moved the Redhawks to 7-2-6 on the season and to 3-2-2 in conference play. Seattle U also extended their unbeaten streak to five and improved their home record on the season to 6-1-2.

Next up for the Redhawks will a road match vs in-state foe Gonzaga on Saturday, Oct. 25. Kickoff from Spokane is scheduled for 6:00pm PT.
