SEATTLE - Seattle U women's soccer pushed its season opening unbeaten streak to six, taking down Oregon, 2-1, Friday night at Championship Field. Caroline Penner and Alana Lamb played their frequent heroic roles, both finding the back of the net in the victory.
Penner opened the scoring on the night, poking home her 23rd career goal in the 27th minute. The ball was crossed in by Kyla Schuster and headed towards Penner by Marla Gaudlitz, as both picked up assists on the play. The goal also moved Penner into sole possession of 10th all-time in program history for career goals.
The scoreline would hold into the break, but it would be Oregon who struck first out of the break, as they scored the equalizer in the 54th minute off a corner.
Seattle U would respond 16 minutes later, when it earned a corner of its own. U'i Kaaihue sent an in-swinging ball into the box that was headed by Bella Bonnett and eventually got to Zoe Hopkins for a shot. The Ducks' keeper couldn’t corral the initial shot, as the ball spilled out to Alana Lamb who knocked it home for the game winner, her second of the season.
