MORAGA, Calif. - Seattle U men's soccer settled for a draw, 1-1, at Saint Mary's in their West Coast conference opener on Saturday. River Stewart scored one of the quickest goals in program history, but a late penalty conversion from the hosts sends the Redhawks back home with just a point.

Stewart’s goal came just 48 seconds into the match, when Cooper Brunell played a ball to the forward who then preceded to take on three Saint Mary's defenders before chipping one past the keeper. It was the second goal in three games for Stewart and the second straight game with an assist for Brunell.

Despite putting up 12 more shots in the game, four on target, the Redhawks could not find a second goal on the day.

That would come back to bite them when a handball was called against the Redhawks in the box late in the 46th minute. The Gaels would convert from the spot and end the match in a 1-1 draw.

The result moves the Redhawks to 2-3-4 on the season and to 0-0-1 in conference play. They will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 4, when they host Pacific at Championship Field.
