ARLINGTON, Texas - Five Seattle U softball players in Avari Morris, Nicola Simpson, Karen Spadafora, Berkley Vance and Mikee Morris, earned All-WAC distinction for a total of six recognitions for the Redhawks in this year's WAC postseason awards, as announced by the league this afternoon.
Avari, Simpson, Spadafora and Vance each earned a spot on the All-WAC Second Team while Spadafora and Mikee rounded out the group as part of the six-member All-WAC Defensive Team. The feat makes it the eighth straight year the Redhawks have fielded at least four All-WAC distinctions.
Sophomore Avari Morris ended the regular season with a team leading .431 batting average, accruing 44 hits in 102 at bats. She scored 11 runs and tallied 21 RBI while knocking out seven doubles, two triples and a grand slam home run. From the circle, the dual-way player collected six wins in 13 starts pitching a total of 77.2 innings and striking out 65 batters. She ranked fourth in the WAC in strikeouts per game, tallying 5.86 a contest.
Earlier this season, Morris became the fifth ever Redhawk to pitch a no-hitter. She took home two WAC weekly awards this season, collecting back-to-back pitcher of the week distinctions after only allowing one hit over the course of two weeks.
The right fielder also paced the team in league play. She held a .423 batting average in WAC contests, recording a team leading 30 hits in 71 at bats. As a pitcher, she grabbed three wins in 45.1 innings pitched and struck out a team leading 39 batters.
Senior Nicola Simpson posed a similar dual-threat, leading the team from the circle all season. In 103.2 innings pitched, the senior struck out a career high 87 batters in 20 appearances for a 2.09 ERA, which ranks third in the WAC. She captured nine wins and pitched nine complete games while holding opponents to a .238 batting average, the fifth best in the WAC. Simpson struck out 23 looking, which is tied-fourth in the league, while her 87 total strikeouts ranks tied-fifth.
As a hitter, Simpson recorded 42 hits, including new career highs in doubles (10) and home runs (6), and 28 RBI. The Seattle native also took home a WAC Pitcher of the Week award this season.
In WAC play, Simpson guided the Redhawks to three wins from the circle in 33.1 innings pitched. She struck out 27 batters in six starts across one complete game. As the designated player, she tallied 16 hits and 13 RBI, going for two doubles and three home runs.
Sophomore Karen Spadafora locked down the WAC's final weekly award on Monday, securing her second player of the week distinction of the year. The catcher ranks second on the team with her .348 batting average. Her .645 slugging ranks first on the team and fifth in the conference. She tallied 48 hits and 33 RBI on the season and scored 25 runs. Her 10 home runs in a season is a new career best and ranks tied-fourth in the WAC. Defensively she posted 250 putouts and 17 assists while catching seven runners stealing.
Spadafora was the lone Redhawk with two separate postseason distinctions. In league play, she ranked second on the team with a .355 batting average and .726 slugging, while recording 22 hits, including six doubles and five home runs. She tallied 18 RBI and 11 runs while accruing 119 putouts.
Sophomore Berkley Vance paced the team with 104.1 innings pitched en route to nine wins from the circle this year. She held a 2.35 ERA, ranked fifth in the WAC, after 22 appearances and eighth complete games. She struck out 72 batters and held opponents to a .231 batting average, which is ranked fourth in the conference. Vance also took home a WAC pitcher of the week award this season.
In conference play, Vance led with a 1.94 ERA in 11 appearances. She secured five wins in 61.1 innings pitched and struck out a team leading 39 batters, while holding WAC opponents to a .209 batting average.
Sophomore Mikee Morris, after earning preseason All-WAC, locked up one of the six spots on the All-WAC defensive team. On the season, she recorded 91 assists at shortstop, which ranked seventh in the WAC. She also secured 63 putouts this year. In conference contests, Morris led all Redhawks with 40 assists, while locking down 32 putouts.
The Redhawks secured the 2025 WAC Tournament's four seed after clinching the series against UT Arlington over the weekend. They face the winner of No. 5 Abilene Christian and No. 8 Utah Valley on Wednesday evening at John C. Funk Stadium in Riverside, California.
