ARLINGTON, Texas - For the second time this season Seattle U softball's sophomore Karen Spadafora took home the A Jersey Mike's A Sub Above WAC Player of the Week as announced by the league this afternoon.
Spadafora's offense lifted the Redhawks to a 2-1 weekend against UT Arlington in the conference and regular season finale. In the final contest, her second homer of the weekend pushed SU to an early lead, while her RBI single helped secure the comeback victory in eight innings.
The sophomore catcher posted a .545 batting average and 1.182 slugging percentage over the weekend's series victory over the Mavericks. In 11 at bats, Spadafora recorded six hits, including a double and two home runs, 3 RBI and four runs. Across all three games, she collected two hits a contest and scored at least one run. Spadafora now holds 10 home runs on the season, a new career best.
Defensively, she grabbed 18 putouts and two assists while catching one runner stealing.
Spadafora's win is the seventh total weekly award this season for the Redhawks, which is the second most in the history of the program, one shy of 2018's eight total weekly awards.
Spadafora and the Redhawks earned the WAC Tournament's four seed after sweeping the doubleheader on Saturday. They kick off tournament play on Wednesday, May 7 at 7 PM PT, facing the winner of No. 5 Abilene Christian and No. 8 Utah Valley in Riverside, California.
