SEATTLE - Ranked No. 17 in the most recent D1Softball Mid-Major Top- 25, Seattle U softball (22-12, 7-2 WAC) returns to Logan Field for a three-game conference series against California Baptist (15-21, 3-6 WAC) for Little League Weekend on April 4 and 5.
Sophomore Avari Morris paces the team with a .482 batting average in 56 at bats. She's recorded 27 hits, including six doubles and a team leading two triples, and 11 RBI. Fellow sophomore Karen Spadafora holds a .365 batting average, ranking top five on the team in hits (35), RBI (25) and home runs (8).
Leading the way in RBI and homers is junior Taylor Fitch. She's sent out nine home runs on the season, which ranks tied-first in the WAC and tied-92nd in the nation. Fitch has accounted for 35 RBI, which ranks tied-93rd in the country. She holds a .342 batting average, while pacing the team with a .694 slugging percentage. Fitch, along with senior Tai Wilson, has 38 hits recorded this year.
Wilson leads the team and the WAC with 34 runs scored. She also has two triples on the year and seven doubles while holding a .325 batting average. Graduate Jasmine Wehn has 37 hits this season in a team leading 118 at bats. She, alongside Fitch, has 10 doubles to rank tied-85th in the nation, while ranking second on the team with 30 RBI. Defensively, Wehn leads all Redhawks with 222 putouts.
Leading from the circle is senior Nicola Simpson. With eight wins on the season, she leads all Redhawk pitchers with a 1.90 ERA and a .230 OBA. She's pitched 88.1 innings on the year and recorded 76 strikeouts, which ranks tied-93rd in the country.
Sophomores Avari Morris and Berkley Vance each have six wins on the season in 12 and 15 appearances respectively. Vance has pitched 59.0 innings this year, while striking out 49 batters. Morris follows suit with 51.0 innings pitched and 47 recorded strikeouts. All three, Vance, Morris and Simpson, have taken home a WAC Pitcher of the Week accolade this season.
As a unit, the Redhawks hold a combined .310 batting average, accounting for 297 hits, 181 RBi and 197 runs through 34 games. Conversely, they hold their opponents to a .253 batting average, allowing 229 hits, 126 RBI and 143 runs. The Redhawks combine for a 3.19 ERA and have pitched for 226.1 innings, while their opponents hold a 5.10 ERA.
Seattle U ranks 62nd in the country in both batting average and ERA. In scoring, the Redhawks average 5.79 runs a game, which ranks tied-65th in the nation, while ranking 67th in strikeouts per seven innings (5.69). Together, Seattle U ranks second in the nation in doubles per game, averaging 2.06 a contest for 70 total on the year.
California Baptist combines for a .272 batting average through 36 contests, having accounted for 255 hits, 125 RBI and 144 runs this season. The Lancers hold a combined 4.39 ERA, allowing their opponents a .311 batting average from 300 hits, 164 RBI and 174 runs scored.
The Redhawks lead the all-time series 13-6 against the Lancers dating back to their first contest in 2019. They are 7-2 at home since then, despite having not played at Logan Field since 2022. Aside from one meeting in the WAC tournament in 2023,the last three series have all been played in Riverside, California. In their last five contests, the Redhawks are 3-2 against the Lancers. They hold the most recent victory despite the Lancers claiming last year's series in Riverside.
Little League weekend features a mini bat giveaway for the first 50 fans to arrive at Logan Field for Friday's doubleheader, set for 3 PM. Saturday morning features a mini helmet giveaway to enjoy with some Hellenika Cultured Creamery frozen custard. Rise Above and Bras for Girls will also be present on Saturday. Following the weekend, the Redhawks travel to Phoenix for a three game slate at Grand Canyon on Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12.
