SEATTLE - A combined two runs was the tipping factor as Seattle U softball fell to Southern Utah 2-1 then 4-3 in Friday's doubleheader at Logan Field.

The Redhawks combined for 11 hits, four runs and four RBI across both contests.

Graduate Jasmine Wehn led the Redhawk offense to open the day, posting two hits in four at bats. Junior Taylor Fitch picked the RBI off a single, scoring sophomore Mikee Morris. Morris finished the day 1-of-3, scoring the lone run and grabbing an extra base hit to lead off the Redhawk offense.

Senior Tai Wilson and sophomore Karen Spadafora combined for 10 putouts to pave the way for the Redhawk defense. Sophomore Berkley Vance paced the team with three assists, which matched her career high.

Vance earned the start in game one, pitching all 7.0 innings for her seventh complete game of the year. She faced 27 batters, while striking out four of them, allowing five hits and two runs of which only one was earned.

The Redhawks struck first in the bottom of the first after Vance guided the defense to a 1-2-3 top of the first behind her first strikeout of the day. Morris led off with a double down the left line before advancing to third on a passed ball. Fitch captured her 43rd RBI with a single out to left field to draw in Morris for the early 1-0 lead.

The Thunderbirds responded with a run of their own in the top of the second, stringing together a run off two hits and a sacrifice bunt to even the contest 1-all. Both teams were held scoreless through three frames before Southern Utah broke through the tie with a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth. Vance recorded two more strikeouts in the process.

Both defenses swiftly sent down the respective next three batters, leading Southern Utah to take game one 2-1.

Returning half an hour later, the Redhawks looked poised to switch the narrative, combining for six hits, three runs and three RBI. Fitch recorded her 11th home run of the season to lead the Redhawk offense, collecting her 44th RBI of the season. Sophomore Avari Morris went 2-of-3 while scoring a run, the lone Redhawk with double digit hits in game two. Spadafora picked up a hit for extra bases and an RBI, while freshman Abbie Fales and Morris scored one run apiece.
Once more Wilson and Spadafora combined for 10 putouts, while freshman Bella Ely led the team with two assists.

Leading from the circle was Avari Morris, who threw all 7.0 innings for the Redhawks. She faced 37 batters and struck out four of them, allowing nine hits and four runs of which one was earned.

Fitch led off the game with her solo shot out of left center field to get the Redhawks rolling early in the contest. The Thunderbirds got one back in the top of the second after an SU error before Seattle U shut down the inning. Freshman Camryn Johnson made the most of her time at the plate, putting the ball in play to score Avari after the sophomore advanced to third behind Spadafora's double.

Neither team scored through the next three frames, while Morris struck out two batters over that time span. Southern Utah reclaimed the lead after scoring twice in the top of the sixth, capitalizing on a Redhawk error and a walk with the bases loaded. The Thunderbirds built their largest lead off an RBI single in the top of the seventh before Ely and Wehn retired the final Southern Utah batter.

Facing a two run deficit, the Redhawk offense struck hard, with Avari Morris dialing up a single up the middle before her sister Mikee Morris followed suit with a hit to second. Spadafora took the sacrifice fly to score Fales to pull the Redhawks within one, but Southern Utah took down SU's final two batters to take game two 4-3.
