Softball Alumni Weekend Features Southern Utah

SEATTLE - Headlining its weekend celebrating its alumni, Seattle U softball (23-17, 8-7 WAC) hosts Southern Utah (11-23, 6-9 WAC) for a three game series at Logan Field from Friday, April 18 to Saturday, April 19 beginning with a doubleheader at 2 PM on Friday.

SEATTLE - Headlining its weekend celebrating its alumni, Seattle U softball (23-17, 8-7 WAC) hosts Southern Utah (11-23, 6-9 WAC) for a three game series at Logan Field from Friday, April 18 to Saturday, April 19 beginning with a doubleheader at 2 PM on Friday.
 
The Redhawks welcome their fans' four-legged friends on Saturday, April 19 at 11 AM for their Bark in the Park game with a Seattle U frisbee giveaway.
 
Leading the Redhawk offense this season is sophomore Avari Morris. She boasts a .467 batting average, recording 35 hits in 75 at bats on the season. Graduate Jasmine Wehn paces the team with 44 hits on the season, a new career best, while holding  a .324 batting average. She's scored 19 runs while ranking second on the team with 34 RBI. The first baseman ranks second in the WAC in doubles, with a team leading 13 recorded this season.
 
Junior Taylor Fitch leads all Redhawks with 40 RBI. The third baseman has 42 hits on the year, while accounting for 27 runs scored. Fitch holds a .318 batting average and leads all Redhawks with 10 home runs this season.
 
Senior Tai Wilson leads the league and the team with 38 runs scored this season. The senior left fielder also paces the team with 10 stolen bases and two triples. She, alongside Wehn and Fitch, has over 40+ hits on the season, ranking third on the team with 41. 
 
Posing a dual threat for opponents is senior Nicola Simpson. Her .325 batting average ranks third on the team while her 88.1 innings pitch ranks first. She has 23 RBI and 38 hits this season. Simpson is one of four Redhawks with multiple doubles on the year, recording 10.
 
From the circle, Simpson holds a career best 1.90 ERA, which ranks 36th in the nation. She's holding opponents to a .230 batting average after 16 appearances. Simpson has struck out 76 batters this season, a new career best for the Seattle native. She leads all Redhawks with eight wins this season.
 
Sophomore Berkley Vance leads the team with 18 appearances from the circle. She's pitched 79.1 innings on the year, striking out 54 batters. She's captured seven wins while holding a 2.65 ERA and limiting opponents to a .247 batting average. 
 
Aiding the Redhawk defense is Wehn, capturing a team leading 251 putouts. Sophomore Karen Spadafora has accounted for 200 putouts on the year, while fellow sophomore Mikee Morris leads the team with 70 assists.
 
As a unit, the Redhawks hold a .303 batting average, which ranks 68th in the nation. They've recorded 340 hits on the year, which ranks 64th in the country. Most impressively is the Redhawks' affinity for hits going for extra bases. Their 2.03 doubles a game ranks second in the country, totaling 80 on the year.
 
Defensively, the Redhawks hold a combined 3.56 ERA which ranks 90th in the country, while their 8.35 strikeouts per seven innings ranks 83rd in the nation.
 
Conversely, the Thunderbirds hold a combined .265 batting average, accounting for 234 hits on the season. They hold their opponents to a .336 batting average behind a 5.81 ERA. They have totaled 102 strikeouts this season. 
 
Seattle U leads the all-time series against Southern Utah 10-5 dating back to the first meeting in 2011. The Redhawks are 4-0 at home since then, last defeating the Thunderbirds in Seattle in the WAC tournament 4-3 a season ago. This weekend's series in Seattle is the first since the 2023 season, where the Redhawks captured the series sweep with all three wins at Logan Field.
 
Following the weekend, the Redhawks remain at home for their final WAC series against Utah Valley at Logan Field. Saturday, April 26 will feature a celebration of their six Redhawk seniors.
