SEATTLE - The Seattle University Redhawks head to Arlington, Texas for the WAC Tournament next, with that three-day tournament beginning April 17. First up for the Redhawks will be a match with Abilene Christian on April 17. If the Redhawks win that match, they will advance to the next, on April 18.
Seattle U will look to build on its success at the last major WAC competition, the WAC Fall Invitational. There, Lamija Avdic and Liliya Dimova became the first Redhawks ever to qualify for ITA Masters, winning the doubles tournament. Avdic also reached the women's semifinals at that competition.
The Redhawks will enter this year's WAC Tournament strong, having won 6-1 on Senior Day in the final regular season match. Six different Redhawks helped earn points in that match. The duos of Daria Nazarenko and Jade Quintana as well as Liliya Dimova and Lola Tavcar each won their doubles matches 6-3. Dimova and Tavcar earned WAC Doubles Players of the Week for their performance, their third consecutive doubles win by at least three points. In singles play, Dimova, Tavcar, Nazarenko, Natalia Michta, and Lamija Avdic all won their matches.
Last season's WAC Tournament saw the Redhawks fall 1-4 to Abilene Christian in the quarterfinals. Avdic earned Seattle U's lone point in that match, winning 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 on court one in singles.
Seattle U's last wins at the WAC Tournament came in 2022. There, the Redhawks beat UTRGV and Abilene Christian, both by scores of 4-3, to advance to the finals. There, the run came to a close, with Seattle U falling 0-4 to New Mexico State. That second-place finish was Seattle U's best ever in the WAC.
