SACRAMENTO, CA - Seattle U dropped game two of their series with Sacramento State, 6-7, in extra innings on Saturday. The Redhawks climbed out of a 3-run deficit earlier in the game but couldn't find a run in extras as they dropped the second game with the Hornets.
"Heart breaker again at the end," head coach Donny Harrel said post game. "Still so very proud of how the bullpen came in and kept the game within reach and how well our defense played."
The Redhawks scored the first three runs of the game in the 2nd inning, with two coming off a Hornet error and the other from an RBI single by Jared Stevenson. SU wouldn't hold the lead for long, as Sacramento State would put up six in their half of the inning to take the 3-run advantage.
Seattle U would start to dig out of the hole with a bases loaded walk by Josh Cunnigan in the 3rd. That was followed by two runs in the 4th, one from a wild pitch that allowed Brandon Stinnet to score and a sacrifice fly from Reese Harmon. The game would remain in a deadlock for the next six innings of play.
After SU was unable to score a run in extras, the Hornets would hit a walk off double in the 11th to take the victory and the series.
"Offense made up for the early deficit and that big hit just didn't come again tonight," Harrel added. "A lot of aspects of the game getting better, but we still need to find away to beat these top teams in the league."
The loss drops the Redhawks to 12-22 on the season and to 3-8 in conference play. They will look to salvage the series and avoid the sweep in game three tomorrow, April 13. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00pm PT with the game being streamed live on ESPN+.
