SACRAMENTO, CA - Seattle U baseball avoided the sweep by taking their series finale with Sacramento State, 2-1, Sunday afternoon in California. The Redhawks rode a stellar start from Kenny Ishikawa and a home run by Tervell Johnson to take game three.
Sunday's game was a pitcher's duel, with neither side being able to muster a run through the first five innings of play. Kenny Ishikawa (3-3) would go six innings and allow just one earned to secure his third win of the season. Rafael Espinoza would relive him to start the 7th, finishing the game off without allowing a run for his second save of the season. The two combined to evenly split 12 strikeouts on the day.
Seattle U's lone offensive output would come in the 7th when Tervell Johnson got a hold of his first Redhawk home run, a 2-run shot over the left field wall to give them the lead. The long ball would prove to be all that SU needed as they held on to close out the ballgame and take the finale.
The win moves the Redhawks to 13-22 on the season and to 4-8 in conference play. They will return to Seattle and be back in action on Tuesday, April 15, when they face Washington on Montlake for the second time in the span of a week.
