SACRAMENTO, CA - Seattle U baseball dropped game one of their series with Sacramento State, 4-6, Friday night in California. The Redhawks took a lead into the 8th inning, but a Hornet home run snatched the game away in the series opener.
"Another tough late loss," head coach Donny Harrel said post-game. "We allowed the 1-out walk and then had an error that could have been a double play, Kligman made us pay for it."
Trailing by one after the first inning of play, the Redhawks used their trusty tool the long ball to comeback and take a lead of their own. Vicente Feliciano hit his 7th of the season in the 2nd, a 403ft solo shot. Kenny Ishikawa would match that season total just one inning later, launching a 2-run blast over the right field wall.
The Hornets would tie the game with a 2-run 4th, but Jake Wagoner would nudge the Redhawks back out in front with an RBI triple in the 5th, his second three bagger of the season.
Seattle U would hold onto the lead for two more innings, before a 3-run home run put the home side up. SU put the tying run on in the 9th but could not push it across.
"Guys got the tying run on in the 9th to give us a chance, but could not come up with the big hit," Harrel added. "Need to get back after it tomorrow and even this series up."
The loss drops the Redhawks to 12-21 overall and to 3-7 in conference play. They will be back in action for game two tomorrow, as Luke Alwood will look to help them even the series with the Hornets. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00pm PT.
