PULLMAN - Despite a 4-run rally in the 5th inning, Seattle U baseball fell in a cross state match up with Washington State, 4-6, Friday night in Pullman. The Redhawks had the chance to tie or take the lead in the 7th with the bases loaded but were turned away as they dropped game one of the 3-game series.
"That five spot in the 2nd inning was the difference maker," head coach Donny Harrel said post-game. "They really took advantage of Espinoza's lack of command tonight and got the big hits after some free passes. He's been good and will be good again, so he'll learn from tonight."
After the Redhawks fell behind by 6-runs over the first three innings of play, they once again tried to make a big comeback on the road trip. A Jackson Lind RBI double started the scoring in the 5th, and was followed by RBIs from Kenny Ishikawa and Reese Harmon. Seattle U would be held off the board the rest of the night as their rally was snipped short.
A highlight of the night was the Redhawk bullpen, with Patrick Galvin and Ryan Morrsion combining for four scoreless innings. Rafael Espinoza (0-3) was credited with the loss during his fourth start of the season. He went four innings while giving up five earned on seven hits.
"Great job by Galvin and Morrison keeping us in the game," Harrel added of his bullpen. "We'll get back after it tomorrow."
The loss drops the Redhawks to 3-10 on the season. They will look to even the series with Washington State in game two tomorrow, with a first pitch scheduled for 2:05pm PT. Isaac Hallam is scheduled to get the start on the mound for Seattle U.
