CEDAR CITY, Utah – Seattle University men's basketball completed the home-and-home season sweep of Western Athletic Conference foe Southern Utah with a dominant 62-39 win at America First Event Center in Cedar City, Utah, Thursday night.
The Redhawks (12-17, 7-8 WAC) played Senior Night spoilers to the Thunderbirds, holding the home team without a field goal in the first six minutes of play, allowing just three field goals in the first half and never trailing in the game.
Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe collected his 11th double-double of the season, finishing with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Malek Gomma and Paris Dawson came off the bench to add 10 points apiece for the Redhawks.
No SUU player reached double figures in their lowest scoring output of the season. The Thunderbirds (12-18, 4-12 WAC) finished with just 12 field goals in the regular-season finale.
Seattle U finished with a season-high 58 rebounds, including 23 on the offensive end, to the Thunderbirds' 34. The Redhawks earned a 20-0 second-chance points advantage.
Continuing to vie for seeding in the WAC Tournament, Seattle U closes out the regular season Saturday, March 8 in St. George, Utah, as the Redhawks face the Utah Tech Trailblazers at 7 p.m. MT, 6 p.m. PT at Burns Arena.
