PHOENIX, AZ - Seattle U baseball dropped the third and final game of their series with Grand Canyon, 5-7, Sunday afternoon in Arizona. The Redhawks led for the first four innings of play, but 8-unanswered by the home team gave them the lead and series sweep.
After having a 4-for-5 performance yesterday, Jake Wagoner continued his hot stretch by hitting a 2-run home run in the 1st to quickly put the Redhawks out in front. Sebastian Lopez and Hunter Komine would double the lead, both picking up RBI in the 4th.
The Lopes would quickly wipe away the lead with a 4-run 5th, before taking the lead by adding on three more in the 7th. Seattle U wouldn't go down without a fight, with Wagoner hitting a sacrifice fly in the 9th for his third run batted in of the game, but it would be the last run scored as they dropped the series finale.
Isaac Hallam (2-4) was credited with the loss in a relief appearance, going three innings and giving up three earned. Kenny Ishikawa was the starter and sat the first nine batters he faced down, but finished his day after allowing the tying runs to cross in the 5th.
The Redhawks are now 9-18 on the season and 1-5 in conference play. They will be back in action, at home, when they host British Columbia on Tuesday, April 1, for a make-up game from the original home opener. First pitch between the Redhawks and Thunderbirds is scheduled for 2:00pm PT.
