SEATTLE - One match awaits the Seattle University Redhawks this week, who head to Portland to take on the Portland Pilots. That match will take place on March 9 at 10:00 am on Portland's campus. This will be the first matchup between Seattle U and Portland this year. The two teams were scheduled to play in Seattle earlier this year, only for the match to be canceled due to weather and travel concerns.
The Redhawks are 1-3 over the last month, with a win over Sacramento State in early February. In that match, Yuan Lu and Yu-Han Hsieh each earned singles and doubles wins to help the Redhawks along to a 4-3 win. That duo earned WAC Doubles Players of the Week after that performance. Filip Stipic also earned a singles win in that match, and the duo of Veselin Kiselkov and Michael Frank earned a doubles win.
Last weekend, the Redhawks faced off with Gonzaga and Eastern Washington. While both matches went against Seattle U, the Redhawks saw singles wins for Kiselkov and Dario Ristovski against EWU. In doubles, Lu and Hsieh earned a win against EWU, as did Kiselkov and Jayden Harrison.
The Redhawks and Pilots played in Portland last year as well, where the Pilots came away with a 6-1 win. Frank earned the point for the Redhawks in that match with a two-set win in singles. That is the only time any current Redhawk has competed in a dual match against Portland: before that, the two schools last met in 2021, also a Portland win.
