STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Seattle U softball (21-11, 7-1 WAC) bounced right back into the win column for its seventh conference victory in a hot offensive showing against Tarleton State in the 12-6 game one win before falling to the Texans(19-15, 5-6 WAC) 4-2 in game two at Tarleton Softball Complex on Friday evening.
On the day, the Redhawks combined for 18 hits, 14 runs and 14 RBI.
In game one, sophomore Mikee Morris paced the team with a new career high six RBI, which ties first in most RBI in a single game in program history. The last to do so was her teammate, junior Taylor Fitch, a season ago. She recorded two hits, a home run and double, and two runs in five at bats.
Freshman Abbie Fales was sensational, recording three hits, which were a home run and two doubles, in three at bats for two RBI. She scored a career high four runs, which ties first in most runs in a single game in program history. The last to do so was teammate Mikee Morris in 2024.
Senior Tai Wilson also accounted for two RBI and three hits in five at bats. She was one of five Redhawks with a double including Morris and Fales. Sophomore Avari Morris and senior Nicola Simpson also had multi-hit affairs in game one, each recording two. Simpson picked up an RBI while Morris recorded a double.
Avari Morris earned the start in the circle, pitching for 5.0 innings en route to her sixth win of the year. She faced 31 batters while striking out four of them, allowing nine hits and six runs. Sophomore Berkley Vance pitched the remaining 2.0 innings. She faced seven batters, striking out two of them, while only allowing a hit and no runs.
The Texans struck first behind two doubles and a sacrifice fly to take the early 3-0 lead in the first inning. They held the Redhawks scoreless until the Redhawks burst through to claim the lead in the top of the third. Fales reached second off a double to lead off the inning while sophomore Sophia Kissling took to first after she was hit by a pitch. Mikee Morris scored them both to even the game 3-all behind a 3 RBI homer out of left field.
Immediately after, Wilson and Fitch singled before graduate Jasmine Wehn advanced them both after grounding out to third. Simpson recorded her RBI single to draw in Wilson before Avari Morris was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Junior Brooklyn Jones was walked with the bases loaded before Fales was walked to score two more runs for Seattle U.
Facing two outs, Mikee Morris returned with the bases loaded to blast a 3 RBI double to score Jones, Fales and Kissling. The Redhawks ended the inning with nine hits and six runs to lead 9-3, the most runs scored in an inning since 2024.
The Texans got two back in the bottom of the fourth to pull within four before Fales took to the plate to hit her second homer of the season on her first pitch of the fifth inning. Leading 10-5, the Texans struck back with another run in the bottom of the fifth, which would be their final run scored in game one.
Fales took to the plate to lead off for SU in the top of the seventh, recording her second double of the day. After Mikee Morris reached, Wilson delivered a 2 RBI double to give Seattle U the 12-6 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh. Vance immediately tossed a backwards K before Kissling secured the second out. After a hit from Tarleton State to keep the Texans alive, Mikee Morris and Wehn secured the final out to cement the 12-6 win for the Redhawks.
In game two, Fitch led the Redhawks with two RBI, one hit and a run. Wilson scored the lone other run, while also recording a hit. Avari Morris and Fales picked up the remaining two hits.
Vance returned to the circle to pitch all 6.0 innings for the Redhawks. She faced 25 batters and struck out three of them.
Tarleton State got out ahead 2-0 behind two homers in the bottom of the first and second innings. After being held scoreless in the opening three innings, the Redhawks evened the game in the top of the fourth. Wilson singled off a bunt before Fitch delivered her ninth homer of the season. The Texans scored two more for insurance in the bottom of the sixth. Fales got on base in the top of the seventh to keep the Redhawks alive facing two outs, but the Texans stranded her to take game two 2-1.
The Redhawks return to Tarleton Softball Complex for the final game of the three game series tomorrow morning at 9 AM PT.
