ARLINGTON, Texas - After leading the Redhawks at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, Jeanne Padillo earned the first Western Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week award of her career. The freshman is the third Redhawk to earn a WAC award this year, joining Tsara Ralamboarison and Rivekka Jumagulova.
At the Thompson Invitational, Padillo finished tied with Jumagulova for the lead among Redhawks. She had the best single round of her collegiate career en route to a even-par finish: in round two, Padillo shot -2 under, 70. That was the best round by a Redhawk freshman since Aaryanna Morris had a -5 under, 67 at the 2022 Clash at Boulder Creek.
Padillo would end the 54-hole competition with 12 birdies in total, including seven in round two alone. Padillo has shot par or better in three of her last five rounds, including two of three at the Thompson Invitational.
Padillo is the fifth active Redhawk to have earned WAC Golfer of the Week. She joins Ralamboarison, Jumagulova, Morris, and Shayna Lu in that regard. Padillo is the first freshman to earn WAC Golfer of the Week for Seattle U since Jumagulova and Lu each did so in 2022.
The Redhawks and Padillo have one more regular-season competition before heading to Arizona to defend their WAC championship. That competition will be the Chevron Silverado Showdown, held in Napa, California from April 7-9.
