SEATTLE - Coming off its third series sweep, Seattle U softball (20-9, 6-0 WAC) carries one of DI softball's longest active winning streaks into a midweek doubleheader against Cal Poly (4-22, 0-9 Big West) at Logan Field on Wednesday afternoon. Due to anticipated weather in the area on Wednesday, the doubleheader has been moved to a 1 PM and 3 PM start.
 
The Redhawks collected their fourth straight WAC weekly award after taking all three games of the Creighton series. Sophomore Berkley Vance led Seattle U in the come from behind win over the Bluejays in game one. She pitched 8.0 innings and delivered 13 strikeouts, which tied second most all-time in a single game. Vance is now the third pitcher to receive WAC Pitcher of the Week this season.
 
Guiding the Redhawk offense this season is sophomore Avari Morris, who leads the team with a .478 batting average. The two-way player has posted 22 hits and 11 RBI in 46 at bats, while scoring five runs. In the circle, she has collected five wins in nine appearances pitching 48.0 innings. She has struck out 43 batters, which ranks second on the team.
 
Junior Taylor Fitch ranks first on the team in RBI (33) and home runs (8). Her 33 RBI ranks tied-63rd in the country and paces the WAC. She also ranks top-five on the team in batting average (.354), slugging percentage (.719), runs scored (21), hits (34) and doubles (9). Her eight homers makes her ranked tied-81st in the nation and second in the WAC.
 
Leading the team in hitting is sophomore Karen Spadafora. Like Fitch, she has also recorded 34 hits on the season, while holding a .370 batting average in 92 at bats. She's scored 19 runs this season, while accounting for 22 RBI. Spadafora has seven homers on the season. On the defensive side, she has caught five runners stealing while recording 172 putouts this year, which ranks her sixth in the WAC in both categories.
 
First baseman graduate Jasmine Wehn leads all Redhawks with 200 putouts, which ranks third in the WAC. Her 33 hits ranks tied-eighth in the WAC and third on the team. Wehn holds a .327 batting average in a team leading 101 at bats. She has eight RBI and doubles this season.
 
SU's other dual-threat is senior Nicola Simpson. As a hitter, she holds a .326 batting average, recording 30 hits in 92 at bats. She ranks tied-first on the team with nine doubles, while ranking amongst the top-five on the team in RBI (19), home runs (5) and runs scored (17).
 
From the circle, Simpson leads the team while ranking second in the WAC with a 2.00 ERA. She collected her seventh win of the season in the series finale against Creighton on Saturday afternoon. She's pitched a team leading 84.0 innings this season, while striking out 75 batters. The feat ranks tied-62nd in the nation. 
 
Together the Redhawks hold a .313 batting average, recording 258 hits on the season. They have combined for 158 RBI and 174 runs scored in 29 contests. Conversely, SU is holding its opponents to a .247 batting average, allowing only 192 hits, 101 RBI and 116 runs scored this season. Seattle U posts a combined 3.16 ERA, while striking out a collective of 165 batters. 
 
The Redhawks rank 54th in the country in strikeouts per seven innings, tallying 5.92 on average in 195.0 innings pitched. Offensively, the Redhawks rank 60th in the country in batting average and 55th in hits. They sit sixth in the nation with 1.97 doubles a game, while ranking tied-53rd in scoring, averaging 6.00 runs a game. 
 
Cal Poly holds a combined .233 batting average on the season, accounting for 149 hits, 49 RBI and 53 runs scored. Conversely, the Mustangs allow their opponents a .322 batting average, allowing 227 hits, 171 runs scored and 149 RBI. The two games against the Redhawks are part of a six game road slate for the Mustangs, starting with SU's cross town rival Washington Tuesday night. Cal Poly is 0-6 on the road this season and looks to snap a nine-game losing skid. 
 
Wednesday's doubleheader will be the seventh and eighth games in the all-time series against Cal Poly dating back to 2014. The Mustangs evened the series 3-all after securing two wins a season ago in Northern California. Of the six games played, four have been on a neutral field. The teams have met twice at Logan Field, where the Redhawks locked up both wins behind five inning run-rule victories in 2019. 
 
Following tomorrow afternoon's games, the Redhawks return to WAC play, traveling to Tarleton State for a three-game series starting Friday, March 28. They return home the following weekend for their Little League Weekend series against California Baptist slate for April 4-5.
