ARLINGTON, Texas - Sophomore Berkley Vance was named the Western Athletic Conference's Pitcher of the Week after a Seattle U softball (20-9, 6-0 WAC) program record tying weekend at Creighton, as announced by the league this afternoon.
The Lakewood, California native pitched a new career high 8.0 innings in the come from behind victory to open the series against the Bluejays to lock up her sixth win of the season. Entering the circle after Creighton scored its five runs in the first, Vance guided the Redhawk defense to shutout the Bluejays through the final eight innings.
She faced 30 batters and struck out a new career high 13 of them, only allowing four hits. She did not give up a run and walked only one batter. Her 13 strikeouts tied second-most in a single game in the history of the program. The last Redhawk pitcher to do so was Shi Smith in 2020.
Vance is now the fourth Redhawk in as many weeks to receive a conference weekly award and the sixth overall for the program this season. It's the most WAC weekly awards in a season since joining the league and the most pitcher of the week awards in a single season.
The Redhawks host Cal Poly for a doubleheader midweek match on Wednesday at Logan Field. They return to WAC play on Friday, March 29 for a three game series against Tarleton State.
