COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - Seattle U softball (20-9, 6-0 WAC) moved to 20 wins on the season after sweeping Creighton (11-15, 1-5 Big East) in the series finale 8-0 in 5 innings at Marshall Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The Redhawks posted eight runs off nine hits while committing no errors. Four Redhawks recorded multi-hit efforts in the win. Through five innings, SU relented no runs to the Bluejays, only allowing four hits and leaving eight runners left on.

Freshman Bella Ely led the way with two hits and four RBI, scoring her first collegiate run off her first collegiate hit, a 3 RBI homer out of left center. She went 2-for-2 on the day in her first start.

Junior Taylor Fitch recorded two hits and two RBI, scoring two runs. Both hits went for extra bases as she knocked out a double and a home run. Senior Nicola Simpson recorded an RBI and two hits, one being her first career triple, while scoring one run. The dual-way player also led the Redhawks from the circle.

Simpson pitched all 5.0 innings to move to 7-3 on the year. She faced 23 batters and struck out two of them, only allowing four hits and no runs. Aiding the Redhawk defense was graduate Jasmine Wehn, who accounted for nine putouts on the afternoon.

Freshman Camryn Johnson also tallied two hits in three at bats, scoring two runs on the day.

Both teams went scoreless in the first two innings, each recording one hit in the second inning. Simpson struck out her first batter of the afternoon, tossing the backwards K in the bottom of the second.

Seattle U scored the bulk of its runs in the top of the third, cashing in for six runs off five hits. Sophomore Mikee Morris led off the Redhawks after earning a walk before Fitch scored Morris off an RBI double facing one out. Fitch moved to third after Wehn grounded out to second base.

Simpson scored Fitch off her first collegiate triple before sophomore Karen Spadafora singled to draw in Simpson to push the Redhawks ahead 3-0. A single from Johnson followed by a throwing error by the Bluejays allowed both Spadafora and Johnson to move into scoring position. Facing two outs, Ely knocked out her first collegiate hit, pulling in 3 RBI off a home run to left center field.
Creighton got one runner on in the bottom of the third but the Redhawk defense made quick work to wrap up the final outs to keep the Bluejays scoreless. In the top of the fourth, Fitch returned to the plate and hit her eighth home run of the season facing two outs. Her run would be SU's lone run in the fourth.

The Bluejays faced two outs before loading the bases in the bottom of the fourth, but their final batter grounded out and left all three stranded. With the Redhawk lead up 7-0 heading into the top of the fifth, SU recorded two more hits and a run to threaten the run rule. Johnson reached on a fielder's choice before advancing to scoring position off a Creighton error. Ely would score Johnson with the RBI single to capture the 8-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth.

With the run rule poised in favor of the Redhawks, the Bluejays sent up four batters, with Fitch and senior Tai Wilson grabbing the first two outs. Simpson secured the victory for the Redhawks behind her final strikeout of the weekend to move the Redhawks to a ten game winning streak.

Seattle U returns to Logan Field for a mid-week match up against Cal Poly, hosting the Mustangs for a doubleheader. The Redhawks return to conference play next weekend, traveling for a three game series against Tarleton State.
