SEATTLE - After its early week contest against No. 8 Oregon was rained out, Seattle U softball (17-9, 6-0 WAC) hits the road for a trip to Creighton (11-12, 1-5 Big East) for a three game series against the Bluejays at Creighton Sports Complex from Friday, March 21 to Saturday, March 22. All games will be played at nearby Iowa Western Community College with game one set for 3 PM PT before concluding at 8 AM PT on Saturday. Live stream will be unavailable given the change in sites.
Sophomore Karen Spadafora earned SU's fifth WAC weekly award following an explosive offensive showing for the series at Utah Tech. She ranks second on the team with a .361 batting average, while holding a team best .663 slugging percentage. Spadafora has tallied 30 hits, 17 runs and 20 RBI in all 26 contests. She leads, alongside junior Taylor Fitch, the team with six home runs.
Fitch paces the Redhawks with 29 RBI which ranks tied-76th in the country. She has accounted for 29 hits and 17 runs while holding a .337 batting average.
Graduate Jasmine Wehn ranks amongst the top-five on the team in batting average (.341), hits (31), RBI (26) and doubles (8). She paces the Redhawk defense with 178 putouts in 26 appearances.
SU's pair of two-way players, senior Nicola Simpson and sophomore Avari Morris, are as influential on the Redhawk offense as the defense. Simpson leads all Redhawks with nine doubles. She has accounted for 26 hits this season and 17 RBI. Morris leads the team with a .478 batting average, leveraging 22 hits and 11 RBI in 46 at bats. She paces the team with two triples this season.
Simpson leads the Redhawks from the circle, accounting for 72 of the 147 strikeouts this season. The mark ranks her tied-52nd in the country. The Seattle native holds a 2.15 ERA in 13 appearances, earning six wins. She has pitched a team leading 78.0 innings, including seven complete games.
Morris has pitched 41.1 innings in 10 appearances, while becoming the fifth ever Redhawk to record a no-hitter. She comes off a career high 12 strikeout performance in the 10-2 victory in game two of the doubleheader against Utah Tech last week.
Sophomore Berkley Vance holds a 3.50 ERA after 11 appearances, striking out a total of 30 batters. She also had a career weekend, striking out a new career high nine batters in the series finale against Utah Tech.
Seattle U posts a combined .311 batting average to its opponents' .253. The Redhawks have 229 hits and 153 runs scored this season. They have a combined 3.38 ERA, striking out a total of 147 batters. The defense has also turned 10 double plays and caught 10 runners stealing.
Game one of the first doubleheader is set for March 21 at 3:00 PM PT. It will be the very first meeting between the Bluejays and the Redhawks in program history.
