SPOKANE - For the third straight time, the Seattle University Redhawks played a 4-3 match, this time ending up on the losing end against Montana. It all came down to the wire, with Montana clinching the final, match-winning point in the third set of the final singles match.
The Redhawks earned the doubles point thanks to wins by Natalia Michta and Lamija Avdic as well as Daria Nazarenko and Liliya Dimova. Michta and Avdic won 6-2 on court one, their third straight win in doubles play. Nazarenko and Dimova rejoined each other on court two after playing in different pairings the last few matches and have now won three straight doubles matches together after their 6-4 win.
In singles play, Michta and Larissa Teramura earned points for the Redhawks. Teramura has won back-to-back singles matches, following up her 6-2, 7-5 win against Portland State with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 win today. Michta has now won two of her last three singles matches: today, the junior fought back from losing set one 4-6 to win sets two and three, each by scores of 6-2.
Both Avdic and Dimova would see their matches go three full sets and include a tiebreaker. Montana managed to take both of those matches to squeak out the 4-3 win.
The Redhawks go right back to it tomorrow as they play Gonzaga in Spokane at 10:00 am.
