PHOENIX - Sophomore Avari Morris moved into the Seattle U softball record books after guiding the Redhawks (10-9) to victory with a run-rule no hitter, the first of her career, on Saturday afternoon, downing Yale (2-8) 9-0 in 5 innings. Morris' no-hitter is the sixth overall in the history of the program and the first no-hitter pitched by a Redhawk since 2020.

The Redhawks followed up with a two home run affair against Oregon State, but the Beavers (8-9) locked up the rematch with a 3-2 win over SU at GCU Softball Stadium.

Morris got the starting nod to open the second day of the ASU/GCU Invitational and pitched all 5.0 innings to match her season high. She faced 16 batters and struck out four of them without giving up a hit or a run or walking any Bulldog. She threw 62 pitches in total. In the final inning, she sent down all three Yale batters and posted back-to-back strikeouts to cement the victory and lock up the run rule no hitter 9-0.

The Redhawk defense worked in tandem with Morris' orchestration, collecting 15 putouts to deter the Bulldog offense the entire game. Yale only reached base once on a SU error in the first inning.

Three Redhawks recorded two hits on the day with graduate Jasmine Wehn leading the charge with two hits, two RBI and a run, batting .354 on the day. Sophomore Karen Spadafora tallied a game leading 3 RBI while picking up a hit. Fellow sophomore Mikee Morris posted two hits and two runs hitting .317 while senior Tai Wilson rounded out the trio with two hits and three runs batting .343 on the day.

Sophomore Sophia Kissling and senior Amanda Morris locked up the first three outs at the top of the first, leaving one Bulldog stranded after Yale reached on an error. The Redhawk offense bounced right back after a heartbreaking loss the night prior as Mikee Morris singled as SU's lead off hitter. Wilson followed immediately after with a bunt single before junior Taylor Fitch tallied the RBI sac fly to bring in Mikee Morris.

Wilson stole second to advance to scoring position before Wehn doubled to left center to score Wilson to put the Redhawks up 2-0 after the first inning. Avari Morris picked up her first strikeout of the day in the top of the second en route to a three up, three down inning. Kissling and Amanda Morris backed up Avari with the final two outs.

Avari Morris took back to the circle after the Redhawks were held scoreless in the second for another three up, three down sequence, delivering her second strikeout of the game at the top of the third.

Carrying that energy into the bottom of the third, the Redhawk offense went to work to score three more runs. With Wehn and Wilson on after they both singled, senior Nicola Simpson hammered a 2 RBI double to put the Redhawks up 4-0 facing one out. Spadafora followed suit to draw in senior pinch runner KJ Hopfer for the RBI.

Another three Bulldogs went up against Avari, but she led them all down with the assistance of sister Mikee Morris and Wehn at the top of the fourth. Seattle U would score four more runs to threaten the run rule in the bottom of the fourth.

Amanda Morris scored first after being walked, a single from Mikee Morris and a passed ball. Wilson reached on a Yale error before stealing second. Fitch got walked before Wehn picked up an RBI for drawing in Mikee Morris. Simpson was then walked to load up the bases. Spadafora recorded a 2 RBI single to cement the inning 9-0 with runs from Wilson and Fitch.

With Yale in survival mode to avoid the run rule, the Redhawk defense clamped down for three more outs. Avari Morris struck out the final two batters swinging to soar right into the history books as one of five Redhawks to throw a no-hitter.

Later that afternoon was the fated rematch between SU and Oregon State. The Redhawks grabbed the late comeback 7-5 against the Beavers a week ago at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

Senior Nicola Simpson and sophomore Karen Spadafora led the Redhawks' offensive charge, each tallying home runs. Spadafora paced the team with two hits batting .333.
Avari Morris batted .429 picking up a hit in two at bats.

Leading from the circle was sophomore Berkley Vance. She pitched all 6.0 innings for the Redhawks and faced 27 batters. She struck out three of them, allowing six hits and two earned runs.

Both teams went scoreless through the opening three frames, neither wanting to relent a lead. Vance struck out one batter in that time span.

The Redhawks broke through first off a home run from Simpson facing two outs. SU got two more runners on before the Beavers thwarted the Redhawk offense. Vance struck out another batter as both teams were held scoreless in the fifth inning.

Spadafora blasted her home run on her first pitch at the top of the sixth to push the lead 2-0 in favor of the Redhawks. Oregon State responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to force the comeback kids' hand in the top of the seventh. The effort proved fruitful as the Beaver defense went to work against the Redhawks in the top of the seventh to avoid the tying run, downing the Redhawks 3-2.

Seattle U returns for its final game of the ASU/GCU Invitational at GCU Softball Stadium tomorrow morning for a rematch against Utah State.
