ARLINGTON, Texas - Sophomore catcher Karen Spadafora's explosive offense helped guide Seattle U softball to its seventh straight win and second conference series sweep over the weekend, a performance recognized by the Western Athletic Conference for its Jersey Mike's A Sub Above WAC Player of the Week this afternoon.
Starting in all three games against Utah Tech, the Tigard, Oregon native recorded a .545 batting average to lead all Redhawks. She recorded six hits, five runs and six RBI in 11 at bats.
Of the six hits, two were home runs and two more went for additional bases, as Spadafora recorded her fifth double of the season and her first career triple. On the defensive side, she locked up 26 putouts across the three contests.
The effort propelled the Redhawks toward their second straight WAC sweep, moving SU to 15-4 in the all-time series against Utah Tech. Her home runs tie-first on the team with six so far this season, tripling her season total from a season ago. Spadafora's distinction is now the fifth weekly award for Seattle U this season.
Seattle U hosts Oregon on Monday, March 17 before traveling to Omaha for two doubleheaders against Creighton from March 21-22.
