SEDONA, Ariz. - The Seattle University Redhawks battled the weather to finish sixth out of 19 teams at the Red Rocks Invitational. Tsara Ralamboarison finished second overall individually, just one stroke off the tournament lead with a -2 under, 70. As a team, the Redhawks were just five strokes off the lead.
What was originally scheduled as three rounds of golf across three days became one round due to snow in Sedona. The Redhawks played nine holes on Friday before weather forced that round to be put on hold. Continued bad weather reduced the competition to just one round, with the final nine holes played on Sunday.
On day one, the Redhawks played to a +5 score through nine holes. Leading the way were Ralamboarison and Rivekka Jumagulova, who each were at -1 under through those nine. Jumagulova had four birdies in her first nine holes, leading the team, and would end the competition at even-par across 18 holes.
That Redhawk duo sat tied for seventh overall when the rest of round one was postponed, just one stroke back from the lead. Ralamboarison played one-under par the rest of the way to move up the standings and end just one stroke off the lead at -2 under, 70. That single-round score was Ralamboarison's second-best round of the year, behind her -4 under, 68 second round from the Harbottle Invitational.
Annika Cruz was at +3 after the first nine holes but improved from there, playing one-under par for the final nine holes to finish at +2 over, 74. Jeanne Padillo finished at +5 over, 77 overall, with a birdie on 18. Melissa Gilloz had a score of +11 over, 83, with a birdie on the seventh hole.
The Redhawks will look to sunnier skies next as they head to Lahaina for the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, hosted by Hawai'i. That three-day tournament begins March 24.
