ST. GEORGE, UTAH - Another double-digit hitting performance and a new career high nine strikeouts for sophomore Berkley Vance propelled the Seattle U softball team (17-9, 6-0 WAC) to its second conference sweep in as many weekends, downing Utah Tech (10-18, 1-5 WAC) 11-5 in the series finale on Saturday afternoon at Karl Brooks Field.

The Redhawks combined for 13 hits and 11 runs for their seventh consecutive win as eight separate SU batters posted hits on the day.

Graduate Jasmine Wehn led the Redhawks with three hits while matching a career high 4 RBI in five at bats. Senior Nicola Simpson grabbed her second home run of the weekend and matched Wehn with 4 RBI on the afternoon. She scored three runs in two at bats

Sophomore Avari Morris also recorded three hits in four at bats, tallying an RBI, while her sister, sophomore Mikee Morris, was the third Redhawk with a multi-hit game in the contest. The shortstop, Mikee Morris, posted two hits and two runs in three at bats.

Leading from the circle and collecting her fifth win of the season was sophomore Berkley Vance. She pitched her third complete game, tossing for all 7.0 innings. She faced 32 batters and struck out a new career high nine, while only allowing seven hits and four earned runs.

Sophomore Karen Spadafora assisted the Redhawk defense with nine putouts on the day.

After a scoreless first inning led behind a three up three down bottom of the first by Vance and the Redhawks, Seattle U broke through first after Simpson came in after a reach from senior KJ Hopfer. Vance struck out an additional two batters in the bottom of the second to keep the Trailblazers from scoring.

A single from Mikee Morris to lead off the third inning was followed by a hit by pitch and a walk to load up the bases with no outs. Wehn stepped up to record the 2 RBI single to draw in Morris and Wilson to build the lead to 3-0 after the third. The Redhawks sent down all three batters, which included two more strikeouts for Vance.

A scoreless fourth inning was highlighted by two additional strikeouts for Vance as she caught both of them looking. Back-to-back singles from Spadafora and Avari Morris set up another Redhawk run as Simpson crossed home to lead 4-0 in the top of the fifth. Utah Tech would score all four of its runs in the bottom of the fifth before sophomore Sophia Kissling cut off the Trailblazer offense with the final out stranding three.

The Redhawks responded in kind, scoring four runs with four hits in the top of the sixth. With two runners on, Wehn recorded an RBI double to reclaim the lead before Simpson followed immediately after with a 3 RBI homer out of left field to pace the Trailblazers 8-4 in the sixth. Vance picked up her eighth strikeout in the bottom of the sixth and picked up an additional out to strand one Utah Tech runner.

In the top of the seventh, the Redhawks recorded three more hits and runs as Kissling kicked off the inning with a single. Mikee Morris and Kissling were moved into scoring position off a wild pitch before Wilson singled to third to load the bases. Fitch was walked to score Kissling before Wehn collected an RBI single to score Morris. Simpson sent out the sacrifice fly to allow Wilson to score to build out the Redhawk lead 11-4.

Utah Tech would score its final run in the final frame before Vance struck out her ninth batter and Hopfer and Wehn locked up the final two outs to secure the victory 11-5 for the Redhawks.
