ST. GEORGE, Utah - Moving to a six-game winning streak, Seattle U softball (16-9, 5-0 WAC) opened the three-game series against Utah Tech (10-17, 1-4 WAC) with another bout of hot hitting to leverage two more wins, defeating the Trailblazers 11-6 then 10-2 in six innings at Karl Brooks Field on Friday evening.
Seattle U combined for 28 hits and 21 runs in both contests. In game one, the Redhawks recorded the tied-5th most hits in a single game (16) while knocking out three home runs in a single contest for the first time since 2021. They accounted for 11 runs and 10 RBI for the second most in a game this season in those respective stat lines (runs, hits, RBI).
Senior Tai Wilson led the scoring front in game one with three runs to match her career high. She recorded two hits, both doubles, while earning a walk in four at bats. Junior Taylor Fitch led with three hits in game one, grabbing a run and an RBI in five at bats to match her career high hits in a single contest.
Graduate Jasmine Wehn and sophomore Karen Spadafora combined for six RBI, tallying three a piece while accounting for a home run each in the third inning. Senior Nicola Simpson recorded the third homer of the day later in the game. Wehn and Spadafora grabbed two hits a piece, while Spadafora scored two runs to Wehn's one.
Sophomore Sophia Kissling rounded out the group of Redhawks with multiple hits on the day, tallying two for a run in three at bats. Ten total Redhawks recorded hits in the hot hitting affair.
Leading from the circle and collecting her sixth win of the season was senior Nicola Simpson. She pitched for 5.0 innings and faced 28 batters, striking out four of them. Fellow senior Naomi Chaidez appeared for the remaining 2.0 innings. She faced 10 batters and struck one out looking.
Aiding the Redhawk defense were Wehn and Spadafora. The pair combined for 14 putouts, with Wehn leading both SU and Utah Tech with nine. Junior Taylor Fitch paced the group with four assists.

Never a group to back down from a deficit, the Redhawks strung together four runs and four hits in the top of the third to reclaim the lead and never look back. Wilson recorded her second double before Wehn rattled off the first homer of the day for 2 RBI. Spadafora followed suit with a home run of her own to even the game 4-all. After sophomore Avari Morris was walked, senior Amanda Morris launched an RBI double to score the go-ahead run to secure the 5-4 lead after the third. Simpson struck out two in the bottom of the third to keep the Trailblazers from responding.
SU had its most fruitful inning in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs and recording four hits. A single from Kissling and a walk by Wilson got two runners on with one out. Fitch picked up her second RBI single to score Kissling before Simpson was walked to load the bases. Spadafora knocked a single then advanced to second, allowing Wilson and Fitch to score. Simpson came in for the score off a wild pitch as Spadafora moved to third. Avari Morris hit out an RBI single to draw in Spadafora to put the Redhawks up 10-4 in the top of the fourth.
Utah Tech would score its final two runs in the bottom of the fourth before Simpson, Chaidez and the Redhawk defense held them scoreless through the final three frames. Simpson recorded the final run of the game, sending out SU's third home run of the contest to elevate the Redhawks to an 11-6 lead. Chaidez tossed out the backwards K and locked up the pop up to ice the contest 11-6 in the bottom of the seventh to keep SU perfect in conference play.
Returning half an hour later after a nearly three hour game, the Redhawks went right back to work, scoring 10 runs and recording 12 hits. Spadafora paced the SU offense with three hits, three runs and three RBI in four at bats. Fitch also knocked out three hits while recording an RBI in four at bats. Six other Redhawks recorded at least one hit in addition to Fitch and Spadafora.
Spadafora, along with her new career high three runs scored, recorded a career high 12 putouts to pace the Redhawk defense in game two of the day. Her three hits included a double, a triple (the first of her career) and a home run, her second of the day.
Leading from the circle was reigning back-to-back WAC Pitcher of the Week sophomore Avari Morris. She pitched all 6.0 innings and faced 27 batters while striking out a new career high 12 batters. The feat ties-third in the all time record books for strikeouts in a single game. Morris allowed seven hits and gave up two runs, of which only one was earned.
Similar to the start of the day, the Redhawks got on board first, scoring on a wild pitch following Fitch hitting a double to advance Wilson into scoring position. Utah Tech held the Redhawks scoreless in the top of the second, but Morris recorded all six outs over the Trailblazers with strikeouts.

A Utah Tech error in the top of the fourth allowed the Redhawks to go back up by two runs as Spadafora got on base with a double at the start of the inning. Between the third and fourth innings, Morris recorded three more strikeouts.
Wehn blasted her second home run of the day at the top of the fifth facing one out before Simpson recorded a single to get on base. Senior KJ Hopfer came in for Simpson as a pinch runner as Spadafora followed suit with her first collegiate triple, allowing Hopfer to score. Spadafora would score immediately after on an RBI single from Avari Morris. Morris returned to the circle in the bottom of the fifth and struck out two more batters to maintain the 7-2 lead in favor of the Redhawks.
Wilson was walked before Fitch moved her into scoring position off a single. Utah Tech turned a double play but Wilson advanced to third despite the two outs. Simpson stepped up to send out an RBI double to let Wilson score before Spadafora recorded her second home run of the day to draw in Simpson.
Facing the run rule, the Trailblazers sent up three batters but Morris and the Redhawks sent them all down as Morris picked up her 12th strikeout of the game. Seattle U stretched its winning streak to six straight games after downing the Trailblazers 10-2 in six innings in game two of the doubleheader.
The Redhawks return to Karl Brooks Field tomorrow morning at 11 AM PT to wrap up the three game series. They return back to action at Logan Field on Monday to host Oregon for their Mental Health Awareness game at 3 PM.
