SEATTLE - Off to Arizona the Seattle University Redhawks go for the Red Rocks Invitational. This will be a 54-hole competition for the Redhawks. Round one begins March 14, with one round on each of the subsequent two days, all at the Oakcreek Country Club in Sedona, Arizona.
19 teams will take part in this year's Red Rocks Invitational, hosted by Northern Arizona. In addition to Seattle U and Northern Arizona; Weber State, South Dakota State, Delaware, Oral Roberts, Northern Colorado, Southern Utah, Xavier, Columbia, California Baptist, Navy, Towson, North Dakota State, Grand Canyon, Morehead State, Illinois State, Wichita State, and Montana will compete.
This is Redhawks' return to action following the Causeway Invitational in late February. At that Sacramento competition, the Redhawks were led by Rivekka Jumaguolova, who finished ninth overall. Annika Cruz had Seattle U's best round at that competition with her -3 under, 69 in round two.
Jumagulova has finished in the top ten individually in five of six stroke-play competitions this year, only missing out on the top ten in the season-opening Leadership and Golf Invitational. The senior has already won two tournaments this year for the Redhawks, the Harbottle Invitational and Portland State Invitational, and now has four individual tournament wins in her career. Three of those four wins have come the last two years.
Annika Cruz and Jeanne Padillo have each finished in the top 25 individually in back-to-back stroke-play competitions. Cruz has done so in five straight competitions now, with the Leadership and Golf Invitational her only time finished outside the top 25.
As a team, Seattle U has finished no worse than fifth in four of six stroke-play competitions, as well as reaching the semifinals in its only match-play tournament. Three times the Redhawks have finished in the top three, including a team competition win at the Portland State Invitational in October.
The Redhawks also took part in the Red Rocks Invitational last season, finishing first with a team score of +17. Jumagulova (eighth) and Tsara Ralamboarison (18th) each finished in the top 20 at that tournament: Jumagulova had a score of +1 across 54 holes while Ralamboarison finished at +4. Cruz finished 22nd overall with a score of +5 for the competition.
All five Redhawks to compete in last year's Red Rocks Invitational are back this year. In addition to Jumagulova, Ralamboarison, and Cruz, Aaryanna Morris and Shayna Lu each competed last season.
