Redhawks Face Utah Tech in WAC Tournament’s Opening Round

SEATTLE - Days after claiming the regular season finale victory over Utah Tech, the Seattle U women's basketball team (4-25, 1-15 WAC) travels to St. George, Utah for the opening round of the 2025 WAC Basketball Tournament to face the Trailblazers (5-24, 1-15 WAC) at Burns Arena. Winner will advance to the quarterfinals at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

SEATTLE - Days after claiming the regular season finale victory over Utah Tech, the Seattle U women's basketball team (4-25, 1-15 WAC) travels to St. George, Utah for the opening round of the 2025 WAC Basketball Tournament to face the Trailblazers (5-24, 1-15 WAC) at Burns Arena. Winner will advance to the quarterfinals at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
 
Freshman Candy Edokpaigbe leads the Redhawks coming off an All-WAC recognition, the first for the program since the 2021-22 season. The All-Freshman team member paces the team with 11.0 points a game shooting 51.3 percent from the field. She started and appeared in all 29 contests for the Redhawks in her first year in Seattle.
 
Edokpaigbe ended the regular season ranking 16th in the conference in scoring, the lone freshman to crack the top-20 this year. She also checked in at 18th in rebounds a game (5.0), 8th in offensive rebounds (2.3), 13th in steals (1.8) and 7th in free throw percentage (66.7).
 
Graduate Christeina Bryan and redshirt junior Tamia Stricklin join Edokpaigbe as some of the WAC's leading rebounders, sitting at 15th and 20th in the conference respectively. The pair each post 9.1 points a game, while Bryan leads the team with 5.5 rebounds a contest and shoots 44.8 percent from the floor. Stricklin is one of three Redhawks with over 30 made triples this season and she averages 5.0 rebounds a contest. She's knocked down 34 threes, averaging 1.2 makes a game, shooting 33.3 percent on the season.
 
Leading the Redhawks from behind the arc along with Stricklin are senior Julianna Walker and redshirt sophomore Olivia Moore. Walker leads the team with 39 triples this season, shooting 34.2 percent from three. Moore has hit 37 shots from three point land, leading the team with a 38.9 three point percentage in 23 games.
 
Edokpaigbe has 16 blocks on the season to lead all Redhawks. She also paces the team with 53 total steals after coming off a career high performance (six steals) against the Trailblazers. Moore, alongside fellow redshirt sophomore Sheridan Liggett, led in the orchestration of the Redhawk offense. Moore hands out 2.5 assists a game to Liggett's 2.4. Liggett leads all Redhawks with 71 total assists this season.
 
Tuesday's meeting will be the third between the two programs this season and the ninth all-time meeting since 2022. The pair have not met in a postseason contest, despite playing Monday's game on the Trailblazers' home floor. Utah Tech is 4-11 on its home court this season and, after falling to the Redhawks, hold a 13-game losing skid. The Trailblazers hold the series edge 5-3 despite Saturday's loss.
 
Utah Tech averages 62.9 points a game this season, shooting 36.0 percent from the floor and 31.0 percent from behind the arc. As a unit, the Trailblazers grab 34.9 rebounds a game while handing out 13.0 assists. They pick up 9.3 steals and 2.9 blocks a game. 
 
The Redhawks shoot 37.4 percent from the field, while ranking fifth in the WAC in total makes from three. They average 6.8 triples a contest and have made 196 on the season, a mark that ranks sixth all-time in a single season. They pick up 32.5 rebounds and 8.7 steals a game.
 
Seattle U makes its return to the WAC tournament field as the nine seed and will face eight seed Utah Tech in Burns Arena for a chance at the 2025 WAC Basketball Tournament quarterfinals in Las Vegas tomorrow. Tip off is set for 11:00 AM PT and airs live on ESPN+
