Moncrieffe and Arington Earn All-WAC Honors

ARLINGTON, Texas – Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe and Maleek Arington were among those honored by the Western Athletic Conference Monday as the league announced its postseason men's basketball honors.

ARLINGTON, TexasMatthew-Alexander Moncrieffe and Maleek Arington were among those honored by the Western Athletic Conference Monday as the league announced its postseason men's basketball honors.

Moncrieffe was named to the five-member All-WAC First Team while Arington was named to the five-member WAC All-Defensive Team. 

Moncrieffe, a graduate forward in his first year with the Redhawks, led Seattle U in points and rebounds this season, averaging just shy of a double-double with 15.1 ppg and 9.6 rpg. He tallied a league-best 11 double-doubles on the season, the most for a Seattle U player in the modern DI era. 

The Toronto, Ontario, Canada, native led the league in rebounds (259), defensive rebounds per game (6.67) and double-doubles (11), while ranking second in rebounds per game (9.6), field-goal percentage (57%), free throws (132) and free-throw attempts (202) and third in offensive rebounds per game (2.93). His marks also ranked him among the best in the nation, including 16th in rebounds per game and 31st in double-doubles.

Arington, a junior guard in his first year at Seattle U, leads the team and the WAC in steals (64) and steals per game (2.13) while ranking second in the WAC in assists (134), assists per game (4.5) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.27). He's had 11 games with three steals or more, including twice tallying six steals, and he has entered Seattle U's top-10 list for single-season steals.

Arington's performance this season has helped the Redhawks rank among the nation's best in scoring defense (38th, 66.5 ppg), turnover margin (36th, 3.0) and turnovers forced per game (40th, 14.2), while also leading the WAC with just 11.2 giveaways per game.

Seattle U will open WAC Tournament play on Thursday, March 13 as the No. 5 seed. They will face fourth-seed Abilene Christian at 6 p.m. at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The game will air on ESPN+.
