ARLINGTON, Texas - Freshman guard Candy Edokpaigbe highlights the All-Western Athletic Conference awards for Seattle U women's basketball following a sensational first season with the Redhawks, earning a spot on the All-WAC Freshman Team as announced by the league this afternoon.
The Naples, Italy native is the first Seattle U freshman to earn distinction to the All-WAC Freshman Team since the league implemented the award a season ago and the first to earn All-WAC recognition since the 2021-22 season.
Edokpaigbe finished the regular season ranking 16th in the conference in scoring, averaging 11.0 points per game after starting and appearing in all 29 contests. She scored 320 points in her debut season, shooting 51.3 percent from the field. Edokpaigbe was the lone freshman to rank in the top-20 in the WAC in scoring on the year.
She also ranked amongst the top of the league in rebounding, ending the season ranking 18th with 5.0 rebounds a game, which included tallying 2.3 offensive boards a game to rank 8th in the WAC. Edokapigbe ranked 13th in the WAC in steals, corralling 1.8 a game, while sitting seventh in the league in free throw percentage at 66.7 percent.
In conference contests, she ranked 20th in the WAC in scoring (11.1), 15th in rebounding (5.4), 12th in free throw percentage (68.7), 8th in steals (2.1), 10th in blocks (14) and tied-8th in offensive rebounds (2.4).
Edokpaigbe was one of two Redhawks to be recognized by the conference for its weekly awards this season, taking home WAC Newcomer of the Week on February 17.
The freshman guard posted two 20+ point scoring efforts on the year, going for a career high 21 points the weekend of her weekly distinction. She recorded two double-doubles this season, most recently against Utah Tech on Saturday in SU's first conference win of the year. She scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. She also recorded a career high six steals in the win, while matching a career high three blocks.
Edokpaigbe led the team with 320 points, 53 steals, 16 blocks, 67 offensive rebounds, 117 made field goals and 80 made free throws. She recorded 146 rebounds on the year and 44 assists while playing a total of 870 minutes.
Edokpaigbe and the Redhawks prepare for the upcoming 2025 WAC Basketball Tournament opening round in St. George, Utah. They'll face Utah Tech at Burns Arena on Tuesday, March 11 at 11:00 AM PT on ESPN+.
