SEATTLE - The Seattle University Redhawks head down the coast for two matches in California this week. Up first will be a road matchup with Saint Mary's in Moraga, California on March 14. The Redhawks will play Sacramento State in Sacramento the next day, March 15.
This is the first trip out of the state for the Redhawks since February 21, when they played the Portland Pilots in Oregon. Seattle U is 1-2 in its three dual matches since then, with the win over Portland State. In that match, Lamija Avdic, Liliya Dimova, Natalia Michta, and Larissa Teramura earned singles points for a 4-3 victory.
Teramura's win against Portland State started a run of three straight matches that the junior has gone undefeated in singles play, going 2-0 with an unfinished match in that time. Teramura has 6-2, 7-5 and 6-2, 6-2 wins and was leading 7-5, 5-2 in her unfinished match.
Michta is also undefeated in singles play over that three-match span. While her match at Gonzaga went unfinished, Michta earned wins against Montana (4-6, 6-2, 6-2) and Portland State (7-6 (7-2), 6-4) in the last two weeks. Michta is 3-2 in finished singles matches so far this spring.
Last year, the Redhawks earned a home win over Saint Mary's, 4-3. Seattle U earned the doubles point, with current Redhawks Avdic and Lola Tavcar combining for one win. In singles play, Avdic is the only returning Redhawk to also earn a win over Saint Mary's last season.
It has been quite a bit longer since Seattle U and Sacramento State faced each other in dual play. The last matchup between the two came in 2019, a 5-2 Sacramento State win. No current Redhawks competed in that match.
