PHOENIX - Seattle U women's basketball (3-23, 0-13 WAC) jumps over to Phoenix for its final leg of WAC road games for a meeting with the WAC's regular season champion Grand Canyon (26-2, 13-0 WAC) at GCU Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Candy Edokpaigbe comes off her fourth game in a row as the team's leading scorer, posting 19 points in the loss to California Baptist on Thursday night. Edokpaigbe posts 10.8 points and 4.8 rebounds a game, shooting a team leading 51.3 percent from the field. She ranks in the top-20 in the WAC in scoring, the lone freshman to do so this season. Edokpaigbe also ranks tied-14th in steals (1.8), fifth in free throw percentage (66.1) and tenth in offensive rebounds (2.3) in the WAC.
Graduate Christeina Bryan and redshirt junior Tamia Stricklin post 9.0 points a piece for the Redhawk offense. The duo also rank alongside Edokpaigbe in the top-20 in the WAC in rebounds. Bryan leads the team with 5.4 rebounds a game and shoots 45.4 percent from the floor on the year.
Stricklin is one of three Redhawks with over 30 triples on the year, netting 31 makes shooting 33.7 percent from behind the arc. Redshirt sophomore Olivia Moore paces the team with 34 triples in 20 games, shooting a team leading 41.0 percent from three. The mark ranks her top-8 in the WAC. Senior Julianna Walker averages 1.5 threes for SU, tallying 32 on the season in 22 games.
Moore also leads the team with 2.7 assists a game. Trailing right behind is fellow redshirt sophomore Sheridan Liggett who hands out 2.4.
The Redhawks rank fifth in the WAC in made threes, connecting for 179 this season. The mark sits four behind tying the top-10 in a single season in the modern DI era. Seattle U also sits sixth in the conference in steals, averaging 8.7 a game.
Saturday's contest will be the 24th all-time meeting between SU and GCU dating back to 2006. The Redhawks trail the all-time series 17-6. They last defeated the Lopes in 2019 in Phoenix behind a 70-55 decision.
The Redhawks and Lopes revisit each other nearly one month to the date, with the Lopes taking the first game in Seattle at the end of January. GCU holds an unblemished record in league play and holds one of the longest winning streaks at 24 games.
Following the game, the Redhawks host two more WAC games to wrap the regular season at the Redhawk Center, welcoming both Southern Utah and Utah Tech.
