BELLEVUE - Seattle U baseball had an explosion at the plate as they defeated Pacific, 10-9, Friday afternoon at Bannerwood Park. The Redhawks tied a season-high with 15 hits to secure their first win of the 2025 season.
The catalyst of the Redhawk offense was Tyler Peterson, who had a 2-RBI double in the 5th and then had drove in the game-winning runs with a 2-RBI single in the 8th. It was Jake Wagoner who set the tone for the game though, as he got a hold of his first homerun of the season, a 2-run shot to left field in the 1st inning.
Peterson didn't just lift the Redhawks with his bat, he also had the biggest out of the game in the 9th inning. With the Tigers down to their final out and having two on, Peterson made a full sprint catch in center field to make the final out and avoid the possible tying run from scoring.
Blake Smith was the starter on the mound, going five innings and giving up five earned and striking out a season-high 8 Tigers. It was Reid Madariaga (1-0) who secured the win out of the pen, holding off a Pacific rally over the final four innings of play. Madariaga struck out two and allowed a single earned run.
The win moves the Redhawks to 1-8 on the season as they now have the chance to take the series with their future West Coast Conference foes. Game two will take place tomorrow, March 1 at Bannerwood Park. Rafael Espinoza will be on the mound with a first pitch scheduled for 2:00pm PT.
