ARLINGTON, Texas - Three Redhawks registered double-digit scoring affairs in Seattle U women's basketball's slated UT Arlington rematch, but the Lady Mavs prevailed over the Redhawks in the sequel 80-54 at College Park Center on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Julianna Walker posted 11 points and three assists on the day, the bulk built from three makes from behind the arc, in her fourth start this year. Graduate Christeina Bryan also knocked down 11 points for Seattle U, shooting 50 percent from the floor and hitting three makes from the free throw line. She picked up two rebounds, two steals and handed out an assist in 17 minutes of action.
Also squaring up from deep was redshirt sophomore Olivia Moore. She struck twice from three point land, scoring 10 points and shot 3-of-4 from the field on the day. Moore also picked up two steals and four rebounds, while dishing out three assists. She's now averaging 2.4 assists per game in 16 appearances.
Freshman Candy Edokpaigbe added nine points while matching a season high in steals, picking up three of the Redhawks' 10 seen on the day. The freshman shot 4-of-9 from the field and hauled in three rebounds.
Fellow freshman Sydnie Rodriguez matched Moore, Walker and redshirt junior Tamia Stricklin with three assists, while connecting for her 24th make from behind the arc this season. The Boise, Idaho native paced the team with five rebounds. Both freshmen, Rodriguez and Edokpaigbe, recorded a block on the afternoon. Stricklin scored eight while picking up four rebounds and three assists.
The Redhawks combined for seven makes behind the arc, matching the Lady Mavs in makes from three. Both teams recorded 10 steals, but points off turnovers tipped in favor of UTA as they picked up 28 to SU's 13.
Seattle U went toe-to-toe with the Lady Mavs through the opening half, always staying within one or two possessions. A fruitful third quarter for UTA proved difficult to overcome for the Redhawks despite Seattle U finding 19 points in that ten minute span. UTA closed the door through the end to defend their winning streak at home, out scoring the Redhawks by ten in the fourth.
The Redhawks return to Seattle for a three game homestand that spans two weekends. First up on the home docket is Abilene Christian on February 13 before Tarleton State makes the trip out to the Redhawk Center.
