SEATTLE - Seattle U women's basketball (3-22, 0-12 WAC) takes to the road for the final time this season, making its first stop to Riverside, California for a rematch against California Baptist (10-16, 7-5 WAC) at the Fowler Event Center on Thursday night.
Freshman Candy Edokpaigbe remains the WAC's lone freshman in the league's top-20 in scoring, posting 10.5 points a game after 25 starts. She also ranks 19th in the WAC in rebounds, averaging 4.8 a game, 5th in free throw percentage (64.9) and 14th in steals (1.7). Edokpaigbe is shooting 50.5 percent from the field on the year averaging 3.9 makes from the floor a game.
The freshman guard has been the team's leading scorer in eight contests this season, including the last three straight games. Edokpaigbe is the second Redhawk this year to earn WAC Newcomer of the Week, taking the title for the week of Feb. 17.
A more veteran corp aids the first year in scoring and rebounds with graduate Christeina Bryan and redshirt junior Tamia Stricklin each ranking top-20 in the WAC in rebounds while contributing 9.0 points a game. Bryan is a 46.4 percent shooter from the floor, averaging 3.4 makes a game. She ranks 16th in the WAC posting 5.4 rebounds a game.
Stricklin aids from the perimeter, with 30 makes from behind the arc this year, shooting 33.3 percent from three. Her 4.8 rebounds a game round of the WAC's top-20. Senior Julianna Walker and redshirt sophomore Olivia Moore join Stricklin with over 30 makes from beyond the arc, both pacing the team with 32 makes on the year. The duo rank 12th and 8th in the WAC in made three pointers respectively, with Moore averaging 1.7 a game.
Both Moore and redshirt sophomore Sheridan Liggett pace the team with 2.5 assists a game.
Combined, the Redhawks have the fifth most makes from three in the WAC this season with 171 recorded through 25 games. The mark is 12 shy of tying the 10th most made threes in a single season.
Seattle U and California Baptist meet for the 14th time in program history and sixth time in Riverside, California. The Redhawks trail the all-time series 12-1, last defeating the Lancers in 2020 83-49 in Riverside. The two met at the turn of the new year, with CBU taking the first game by six in Seattle. California Baptist is 4-8 at home this year and recently came off a loss to the WAC's regular season champion Grand Canyon last Saturday.
