SEATTLE - Seattle University hits the road once again as the Redhawks prepare to play Gonzaga and Eastern Washington this weekend. Both of those games will be away from home across the state. The Redhawks will take on Gonzaga on March 1 at 10:00 am in Spokane, then take on Eastern Washington the next day, March 2, at 12:00 pm in Cheney.

This weekend ends a long layoff for the Redhawks, who had their last match, against Portland, canceled due to weather. Seattle University last competed on February 7 and 8, when they split matches against Sacramento State and Oklahoma State. The Redhawks won 4-3 against Sacramento State, then fell 0-4 to Oklahoma State.

Yuan Lu and Yu-Han Hsieh had particularly noteworthy performances that weekend, earning WAC Doubles Players of the Week together. Lu also earned WAC Singles Player of the Week, becoming the first Redhawk ever to earn both Singles and Doubles Player of the Week since the WAC instituted separate awards in 2017. The Redhawks last earned both Singles and Doubles Players of the Week as a team in 2022, when Filip Stipic earned Singles and the duo of Julian Worn and Veselin Kiselkov earned Doubles Players of the Week.

Lu's Singles player of the Week award was the first this year for the Redhawks and first since Jun Sasagawa earned in last April. The last Seattle U duo to earn Doubles Players of the Week was Julian Worn and Michael Frank, who won it in January of 2024.

This is the second competition at Gonzaga for the Redhawks this year. During the fall season, Seattle U took part in the Gonzaga Invitational, a three-day tournament. Lu and Hsieh advanced to the easst finals of the red doubles draw at that tournament, winning twice. Stipic and Sasagawa also earned two doubles wins, coming in the white consolation bracket, which they won. In singles play, Sasagawa made the finals of the white singles west draw, winning twice.

While the Redhawks regularly take part in Gonzaga's fall tournament, the two schools have not met head-to-head since January of 2022, when Gonzaga won 4-0.Frank, Stipic, Kiselkov, and Jayden Harrison all appeared in that match as freshmen.

The last time Seattle U took on Eastern Washington in a dual match was also 2022: the Redhawks won that matchup 4-1. Stipic, Kiselkov, and Frank all earned singles wins for the Redhawks, while Frank and Kiselkov also won separate doubles matchups.
