SEATTLE - After a season filled with record-breaking performances, the Seattle University Redhawks head to the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted in Spokane, Washington at The Podium on February 28 and March 1.
The Redhawks have put 25 new all-time top-ten times in the record book this season entering this week. That includes two new all-time bests just last meet, when Lilianne Hargreaves (mile) and Osaze Williams (800m) broke school records. Seku Sanders also broke the 800m SU record with a 1:51.54, only to have Williams beat his time in the very next heat with a 1:50.91.
In addition to those new all-time top times, the Redhawks have also set a new program-best time in the 3000m (Hargreaves). Nine times this year a Redhawk has recorded the best or second-best performance in different indoor events.
This will be the second time this season that Seattle University has competed at The Podium in Spokane. Last time there, at the Riverfront Invitational, the Redhawks had Taylor Marks, JR Zamora, and Manthita Wague all record new all-time top-ten results. Wague did so in the long jump, finishing just .03m behind Seattle U's all-time record, held by Caylah Lunning with a 5.60m. Zamora had a 13.43m triple jump, the fourth-longest in SU history. Marks ran a 7.95 60m, good for eighth-fastest in SU history.
Last season, the Redhawks won one WAC championship, in the women's distance relay, and set a new all-time program record in the 200m. That distance relay team of Azalea Groleau, Taylor Marks, McKenna White, and Lilianne Hargreaves are all back this season and will look to defend their title, earned with a 12:05.94 last year. That foursome also hold Seattle U's all-time distance relay record, running a 11:54.94 in February of 2024.
The outdoor season will start up quickly after the WAC Indoor Championships. Seattle U's first scheduled outdoor meet is the PLU Open, hosted in Tacoma on March 8.
