CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - On the final day of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, Seattle U softball (8-7) secured its third come from behind victory of the weekend, defeating Oregon State (6-8) in a 7-5 thriller on Sunday morning to go 3-2 on the weekend for the first time ever at the MNCC tournament.

Graduate Jasmine Wehn led the Redhawks to victory recording two hits and two RBI to orchestrate the go ahead run in the top of the seventh inning. She hit .333 in four at bats and paced the Redhawk defense with 11 putouts on the afternoon. Senior Amanda Morris hit .310 in four at bats for a hit and 2 RBI, recording a huge double in the sixth inning to tie the game.

In addition to Wehn, three more Redhawks grabbed two hits as SU notched its sixth game with double-digit hits recorded. Of the 13 seen against Oregon State, sophomore Karen Spadafora picked up two hits and an RBI. She aided Wehn on the defensive end, tacking on six of the Redhawks' 21 putouts.

Sophomore Mikee Morris led the team with five assists on the day, while grabbing two hits in four at bats. Fellow sophomore Sophia Kissling recorded her fourth game in a row with at least a hit, grabbing two against the Beavers for her second game of the weekend with two hits.

Leading from the circle at the start and collecting her fourth win of the season was senior Nicola Simpson. The Seattle native pitched for 5.0 innings and faced 25 batters while striking out four of them. Sophomore Berkley Vance came in at the bottom of the sixth and pitched the remaining 2.0 innings. Vance faced seven batters and struck out two while allowing one hit and no runs.

After slowing the Redhawks out of the gate, the Beavers struck first in the bottom of the second to take the early 2-0 lead. Neither time scored through the second and third innings, while Simpson picked up three strikeouts in that time span. Oregon State built up its lead in fourth off a home run to maintain the lead 3-0.

Mikee Morris unleashed an RBI double to get the Redhawks on the board in the top of fifth, drawing in Kissling to make it 3-1. Oregon State responded with a two run home run to pad its lead back 5-1.

With Wehn on base at the top of the sixth, Simpson singled to center field to get two runners on, facing one out. Freshman Zoe Hopkins and senior KJ Hopfer came in to pinch run for both Wehn and Simpson. Spadafora stepped up and hit an RBI single to draw Hopkins to make it 5-2. Facing two outs, senior Amanda Morris rattled off a 2 RBI double to score both Hopfer and Spadafora. Morris, taking full advantage of an error and miscues from Oregon State, would come home for the equalizer to even the game 5-5.

Vance came into the circle for Simpson and immediately sent down the next three Oregon State batters, striking out one while the Redhawk defense took care of the rest. Immediately heading into the top of the seventh, the Redhawk bats stayed hot. Senior Tai Wilson got to first off a hit before junior Taylor Fitch got on base with a hit. The pair advanced to settle on third and second respectively facing no outs.

For the second time in a comeback victory, Wehn stepped up to the plate for a crucial at bat. With two runners in scoring position and no outs, Wehn threaded a single down the left line to get the 2 RBI go ahead runs from both Wilson and Fitch. The Beavers took down the final three Redhawk batters to make one final push to try and stay alive.

Oregon State got a runner on first off a hit before Kissling grabbed the first out of the bottom of the seventh. Vance struck out the subsequent batter before junior Brooklyn Jones secured the win with the final out to complete the comeback 7-5 over the Beavers.

The Redhawks travel for their final tournament next weekend, making appearances in both Tempe, Ariz. and Phoenix for the GCU/ASU Invite. SU heads to Arizona State first, facing both UTEP and the Sun Devils at Farrington Stadium before wrapping the weekend at GCU Softball Stadium against Yale, Oregon State and Utah State.
