ARLINGTON, Texas - Junior Taylor Fitch and senior Nicola Simpson took home both Jersey Mike's A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference's weekly awards for Seattle U Softball in a sweep of WAC player and pitcher of the week respectively, as announced by the league this afternoon.
Fitch, in five starts over the weekend, collected a .389 batting average accruing seven hits, four runs and 10 RBI in 18 at bats. She helped construct an explosive Redhawk offense recording four doubles, one triple and one home run in SU's 3-2 record on the weekend. The All-WAC preseason team member had a hand in scoring in all four games of the CSUN Matador Classic with recorded runs in each contest, while collecting at least one hit in all four games.
In the shutout win over Pacific, Fitch matched a season high three hits and recorded a season high 5 RBI, one short of meeting her career best in game, in five at bats. She hit two of her four doubles of the weekend in the win, tying a career high in a single contest.
Simpson pitched a total of 16.0 innings over the duration of the weekend, allowing only four hits, two walks and one run that was unearned. She struck out a total of 18 batters. Her 0.00 ERA on the weekend (her fourth straight game with an 0.00 ERA) lowered her season ERA to 0.97 to lead all Redhawk pitchers. The Seattle native has not given up an earned run in four of her five appearances in the circle.
Against Utah State, Simpson matched a career best performance, striking out eight batters in 7.0 innings pitched. In her 9-0 shutout victory over Pacific, she was one strikeout short of matching her career high for the third time in four games, striking out seven batters. In back-to-back games she didn't give up a walk, only allowing two total in three games.
The Redhawks sweep the WAC weekly awards for the first time since 2021, when both Stephanie Madrigal and Brooke Milder were recognized as pitcher and hitter of the week respectively. SU extends its streak to nine straight years with at least one recipient of a conference weekly award.
