ARLINGTON, Texas - A stellar weekend for Seattle U women's basketball's freshman Candy Edokpaigbe locked up the Redhawks' second Jersey Mike's A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week award of the season, as announced by the league this afternoon.
Edokpaigbe was the lead contributor in both contests last week for Seattle U, averaging 18.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 2.0 steals across both games, while shooting 50 percent from the field.
The Naples, Italy native opened the weekend posting her first collegiate double-double against Abilene Christian. Edokpaigbe paced the Redhawks with 15 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks and a new career high four steals, shooting 43.8 percent from the floor.
In her 24th start for SU on Saturday against Tarleton State, she collected her second 20+ point scoring effort of the season. Edokpaigbe netted a new career high 21 points off a new career high nine made field goals, shooting 56.3 percent from the field in a season high 39 minutes played. She also added eight rebounds and a new career high three blocks.
Since joining the conference in 2013, Edokpaigbe is the first freshman to take home a WAC weekly award.
Edokpaigbe ranks as the WAC's lone freshman in the top-20 in scoring, posting 10.4 points a game on the season. She sits 10th in the league in offensive rebounds, 11th in minutes played, 18th in rebounds, 13th in steals and 13th in blocks.
