ABILENE, Texas – Little went right for Seattle University men's basketball Thursday night as the Redhawks dropped a 75-59 Western Athletic Conference decision at Abilene Christian.
Seattle U (10-14, 5-5 WAC) managed just 38% field goal shooting, 2-of-17 from three and left points at the line, hitting just 17-of-33 from the charity stripe.
Trailing by one, 17-16, at the 11:32 mark of the first half, the Redhawks succumbed to a 9-0 Wildcat run that opened up a double-digit lead for the home team. Four straight Seattle U points cut the deficit to six, 26-20, but ACU closed out the frame on a 14-6 run to lead 40-26 at the break.
Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe had 14 points in the half, but no other Redhawk had more than three.
The ACU lead ballooned to as many as 23 in the second half and never got closer than 14.
Moncrieffe finished with a game-high 18 points. Malek Gomma joined in him double figures with 11.
ACU was paced by Quion Williams' 16 points. Bradyn Hubbard added 12 points for the Wildcats.
The game marked 134 in his Seattle U career for Kobe Williamson as the fifth-year senior surpassed Riley Grigsby as the program's all-time leader in games played. Fellow fifth-year senior Viktor Rajkovic hit a milestone of his own, notching his 100th appearance as a Redhawk.
Seattle U concludes its final Texas swing on Saturday, Feb. 15, facing Tarleton State in Stephenville. Tip off from Wisdom Gym is 7 p.m. Central Time, 5 p.m. Pacific.
