SEATTLE - The second rendition of 2025 of Seattle U women's basketball (3-20, 0-10 WAC) and Abilene Christian (16-9, 5-5 WAC) favored the Wildcats as the Redhawks fell 84-62 at the Redhawk Center on Thursday night.
Senior Julianna Walker scored a season high 15 points on the back of five makes from behind the arc, which was one make shy of tying her career high in made threes in a game. She shot 55.6 percent from three on the night while picking up three rebounds and a steal.
Three more Redhawks, in addition to Walker, recorded double-digit scoring efforts on the evening. Freshman Candy Edokpaigbe grabbed her first collegiate double-double also scoring 15 points off a season high tying seven made field goals and a new season high 11 rebounds. She also posted a season high two blocks and four steals in 36 minutes of action.
Graduate Christeina Bryan scored 11 for the Redhawks coming off the bench, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field. She picked up four rebounds and two steals while hitting three makes from the free throw line. Scoring 10 for the Redhawks was redshirt junior Tamia Stricklin. She shot 44.4 percent from the floor, while picking up a block, two steals, three rebounds and three assists in 28 minutes of playing time.
Redshirt sophomore Olivia Moore handed out a team leading four assists and picked up two steals, while hitting two of the eight triples seen on the night by Seattle U. As a unit the Redhawks recorded 13 steals, 33 rebounds, four blocks and 11 assists. Both teams scored 28 points in the paint and generated 14 points from their respective benches.
Both teams got off to a cold start in the opening minutes of action. Seattle U grabbed the lead behind a three point play from Stricklin before going up by three from a triple by Moore. The Wildcats went nearly eight minutes without a made field goal, but kept in the game from the free throw line. They got up by as many as eight as the Redhawks also couldn't get shots to fall. SU trailed 18-12 after 10 minutes of play.
The Wildcats flipped the script in the second quarter, out scoring the Redhawks by 15 to take the 49-28 lead at the half. They shot over 70 percent from the field and went 7-of-10 from behind the arc while locking down offensive chances for the Redhawks. While the Redhawks shot 50 percent in the second quarter, seven SU turnovers proved costly in the deficit at half.
ACU only out scored the Redhawks by one in the second half as both teams scored 20 points out of the break. The Wildcats would score 15 to SU's 14 in the final ten minutes to take the win 84-62. Abilene Christian produced 22 points from the charity stripe to Seattle U's eight as both teams nearly mirrored one another in turnovers. The Redhawks produced 20 turnovers to ACU's 18, as they picked off the Wildcats for 13 steals to their 10, but the Wildcats were able to score 12 more points of turnovers compared to Seattle U.
The Redhawks return to the Redhawk Center on Saturday afternoon as they prepare to revisit Tarleton State in their Play4Kay Pink Game.
