SEATTLE - Seattle U softball carries a two-game winning streak into its second weekend of 2025 with the Redhawks (2-3) traveling to California for five more games. The weekend features a neutral site contest in Riverside, California against Utah State, and concludes at the CSUN Matador Classic, which features Pacific and CSUN in Northridge.

The Redhawks are one of three teams in the WAC with an active winning streak at two games, a feat achieved after defeating both Pacific and Fresno State in the final contests of the Stanford Invitational.

Nine Redhawks recorded hits over the course of opening weekend. Senior Tai Wilson led the Redhawks tallying seven runs, six hits, including a triple, 3 RBI and a .429 batting average in 14 appearances at the plate. Fellow senior Jasmine Wehn recorded five hits, including two doubles, and a team leading 6 RBI while hitting .357 in 14 at bats. All WAC Preseason team member junior Taylor Fitch also posted 6 RBI, collecting five hits, which included two home runs, for a .333 batting average in 15 at bats.

Also grabbing her first home run of her career was freshman Abbie Fales. The San Jose, California native collected four hits, two runs and 5 RBI in seven at bats, hitting a .571 batting average in her collegiate debut. Also grabbing a hit and two runs in her first collegiate season was freshman Camryn Johnson. The pair combined for five starts in right field.

Leading the Redhawk defense through five games was Wehn and the 2024 WAC Defensive Player of the Year sophomore Karen Spadafora. Spadafora grabbed 20 putouts and two assists with no errors while catching one runner stealing. Wehn paced the team with 32 putouts. Also making key outs for the Redhawks was senior KJ Hopfer, who recorded eight putouts and leads the team with 11 assists.

Coming off a career high eight strikeout performance is senior Nicola Simpson. She leads the Redhawks from the circle, pitching through 13.0 innings and striking out 11 batters while holding a 2.15 ERA after two starts. She grabbed the win for Seattle U against Fresno State after sophomore Berkley Vance locked up the win against Pacific. Vance holds a 3.89 ERA after two appearances and one start, pitching for 9.0 innings and striking out three batters.

The weekend begins with a neutral site game between Utah State and the Redhawks in Riverside, California, home of the 2025 WAC Softball Tournament. Seattle U and Utah State have met five times since 2010, with the Redhawks leading the series 4-1. SU has taken the last four contests, though the two teams have not met since 2018. That season, the pair met in Las Vegas, with the Redhawks taking the contest 9-5.

Following the game on Friday afternoon, Seattle U travels over to Northridge, California for the two day CSUN Matador Classic. The Redhawks face the Matadors first and play them twice over the weekend. Also in attendance is Pacific.

Seattle U trails the all-time series against the Matadors 2-9 dating back to their first meeting in 2013. The teams met a season ago in Cathedral City, California with the Matadors taking the contest 6-4. The Redhawks last defeated CSUN in 2018 in Northridge 4-1. They have met three times at Matador Diamond since the series began and the Redhawks hold a 1-2 record on CSUN's field.

Revisiting Pacific for the second weekend in a row, the Redhawks look to maintain their winning streak over the Tigers. They have won the last four meetings, including last week's 9-3 win in Stanford and now hold the series edge 4-3.

Following the weekend, the Redhawks return for one more tournament in California, traveling to Palm Springs for the renowned Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic over a three day stretch where they'll face Fresno State, Northwestern, Long Beach State, California and Oregon State. Seattle U debuts at home against Abilene Christian on March 7 for its first WAC series of the year.
