SEATTLE - Yuan Lu and Yu-Han Hsieh earned weekly honors from the Western Athletic Conference after a strong week for Seattle University men's tennis. Lu earned WAC Singles Player of the Week honors, the first such honors of his career. Lu and Hsieh teamed to earn WAC Doubles Players of the Week as well.
This is the first weekly WAC honor of both Lu and Hsieh's careers. The last Redhawk to earn Singles Player of the Week was Jun Sasagawa, who won on April 2 of last year. The last Redhawk duo to earn Doubles Players of the Week was Michael Frank and Julian Worn, who won in January of last year.
The last time the Redhawks swept the weekly WAC awards was in 2022, when Filip Stipic earned Singles Player of the Week and the duo of Worn and Veselin Kiselkov earn Doubles Players of the Week. Lu is the first Redhawk to earn both Singles and Doubles Player of the Week in the same week since the WAC created separate awards in 2017.
Lu earned a 6-4, 6-2 win in Seattle University's match against Sacramento State, picking up the first singles win in what would end up a 4-3 SU victory. In doubles play, Lu and Hsieh won 6-3, helping SU clinch the doubles point.
Next up for the Redhawks is a home match against the Portland Pilots. The Redhawks take on Portland on February 15 at 9:00 am at the Amy Yee Tennis Center.
