Brayden Maldonado Named WAC Player & Newcomer of the Week

ARLINGTON, Texas – Seattle University's Bryaden Maldonado has been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Saturday, Feb. 8.

ARLINGTON, Texas – Seattle University's Brayden Maldonado has been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Saturday, Feb. 8.
 
Maldonado, a junior transfer guard, shot a red-hot percentage for Seattle U in a crucial homestand sweep against Tarleton State and UT Arlington. Maldonado averaged 22.0 points, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 70.0 percent from the floor that included a blazing 72.2 percent from 3-point range. Maldonado poured in 18 points on 6-of-8 made 3's to go along with three rebounds, six assists and two steals in a 91-54 rout of Tarleton State on Feb. 6. Maldonado exploded for 26 points on 7-of-10 made 3-pointers and two steals in a 67-65 last-second victory over UT Arlington on Feb. 8.

Maldonado is the second Redhawk this season to earn the weekly WAC awards as Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe was named Newcomer of the Week on Dec. 9 and also earned Newcomer and Player of the Week on Jan. 13.

Seattle U heads back out on the road next week, making its final trip to the state of Texas. The Southwest road swing begins Thursday, Feb. 13 at Abilene Christian. Tip off from Moody Coliseum is 7 p.m. Central Time, 5 p.m. Pacific.
