SEATTLE - A weekend on the road lies in store for Seattle U women's basketball (3-17, 0-7 WAC) as the Redhawks start their trip against Tarleton State (14-9, 5-3 WAC) on Thursday night at Wisdom Gym.
Freshman Candy Edokpaigbe retains her status as the WAC's lone freshman in the top-20 in scoring. The freshman guard has started all 20 games for the Redhawks and is averaging 9.9 points per game, ranking 19th in the WAC. She's also fifth in the league in free throw in free throw percentage, hitting 66.2 percent with 51 makes on the season. The Naples, Italy native is shooting 52.6 percent from the floor, averaging 3.6 made field goals a game, while pacing the team with 2.2 offensive rebounds a game. She ranks third on the team with 4.3 rebounds a game.
Ranking amongst the top-20 in the WAC in rebounding are graduate Christeina Bryan and redshirt junior Tamia Stricklin. Bryan sits at 13th in the conference with 5.6 rebounds a game. Stricklin trails just behind with 5.1. Both aid the Redhawks in scoring, with Bryan posting 8.6 points a game shooting 44.3 percent from the floor. Stricklin adds another 9.0 points per game and paces the team in made threes, connecting 24 times from deep.
Freshman Sydnie Rodriguez and redshirt sophomore Olivia Moore are also poised for scoring from the perimeter. The Redhawks as a unit have the fifth most makes from three point land in the WAC with 137 on the season. Rodriguez, after going for a season high 13 points against Grand Canyon, has 23 makes from behind the arc this season. Moore, since her return mid-January, has 19 triples this season as a 38.8 percent three point shooter. Her 1.4 makes from beyond the arc in 14 contests ranks her 14th in the WAC.
Redshirt sophomore Sheridan Liggett ranks 15th in the WAC in assists, dishing out 2.8 a game to lead all Redhawks. She posts 5.9 points and 1.2 steals a game for Seattle U, appearing in all 20 contests so far this year.
Nine different Redhawks have led the team in scoring through 20 games. Edokpaigbe and Bryan have both taken the title of leading scorer five times this season. The duo, along with Stricklin, have each recorded a 20+ point scoring effort on the year.
Seattle U and Tarleton State meet for the 8th time in program history on Thursday night. The Redhawks hold the narrow 4-3 edge on the series after capturing the 61-57 victory over the Texans in Stephenville a season ago. Since the series began, the Redhawks are 1-1 in Wisdom Gym, while holding a 3-2 record in Seattle.
After a 2-0 weekend for the Texans, Tarleton State now holds the third longest unbeaten streak in the conference at three games. TSU is 9-2 at home this season and currently sit in third in the WAC standings. The Redhawks have won a game at home, on the road and on a neutral court, but are still in hot pursuit of their first conference win of the season.
Following Thursday's game, the Redhawks remain in Texas, traveling for a rematch against UT Arlington on Saturday at noon.
