SEATTLE - Four Redhawks scored in double-digits as the Seattle U women's basketball team (3-11, 0-1 WAC) opened WAC play in a 70-64 defeat to the California Baptist Lancers (4-11, 1-0 WAC) at the Redhawk Center on Saturday afternoon.

Redshirt junior Tamia Stricklin and redshirt sophomore Sheridan Liggett combined for 34 points, scoring 17 a piece to lead all Redhawks. Liggett's 17 was a new career best as she went 6-of -10 from the floor and 3-of-4 from downtown.

Stricklin opened with the first ten points of the game for the Redhawks and ended with 17 after posting 21 points against the Roadrunners in Bakersfield. Stricklin also hit three triples, shooting 6-of-15 from the floor while recording seven rebounds and three steals.

Freshman Candy Edokpaigbe posted 11 points and eight rebounds, including four offensive boards. She drew eight fouls, took ten free throws while hitting five, which was one shy of her season high. She also grabbed three steals on the day.

Senior Sophie Benharouga added 10 points in her first start for the Redhawks, grabbing seven rebounds while shooting 5-of-7 from the floor. Graduate Christeina Bryan led the team with four steals, as the Redhawks combined for 12 on the afternoon, and six points off 50 percent shooting from the field.

As a unit, the Redhawks combined for 41.4 percent shooting from the floor and seven threes, while corralling 31 rebounds and 12 steals. They outscored the Lancers in the paint 30 to 28, while holding the edge in second chance points 11 to 6.

Seattle U held the lead after the first two quarters, including the 41-37 edge heading into halftime. The Lancers surged ahead in the third quarter, out scoring the Redhawks by ten to swing the tide in their favor. The Redhawks responded in turn in the fourth to pull within two, but a triple from the Lancers with a minute remaining proved to be the keepaway score. With time against them, the Redhawks sent the Lancers to the line, but couldn't get the edge from their own offensive possessions, falling by six in their first contest of the new year.

The Redhawks return to action in a week as they travel to Abilene Christian on January 11 at 11 a.m. PT for their first WAC road game of the year.
