ARLINGTON, Texas – Seattle University men's basketball rallied from a 16-point halftime deficit to even the score against UT Arlington, but the home team would pull away late in a 65-56 Western Athletic Conference final at College Park Center Thursday night.

A slow start for the Redhawks (8-11, 3-2 WAC), coupled with hot shooting from the Mavericks (8-11, 1-4 WAC) saw Seattle U facing a 17-3 hole at the 14:40 mark of the first half.

The Redhawks put together a 13-3 run to close the gap to four, 20-16, but the Mavericks converted 10 first-half threes on their way to a 40-24 lead at the break.

Renewed energy on defense and eight straight Kobe Williamson points to open the second half helped the Redhawks chip away at the deficit. An 11-0 run, capped by a John Christofilis tough layup through traffic, knotted the score 50-50 with 7:50 to play.

But the Redhawks would go ice cold from the field for the next six minutes and UTA pushed their lead back to double digits. Seattle U held the Mavericks without a field goal for the final six minutes of play, but the damage was done and the home team used free throws to seal the win.

Williamson finished with 13 points to lead Seattle U. Paris Dawson had 11 points while Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe was held in check offensively, managing just 3-of-12 from the field, finishing with nine points and 14 rebounds.

UTA had four players in double figures, paced by Darius Burford's 13 points. Six different Mavs combined for 14 threes, the most allowed by Seattle U this season.

The Redhawks return to Seattle for a Saturday tilt against Utah Valley. Tip off from the Redhawk Center is set for 7 p.m.
